HealtheParadigm Welcomes Atlanta, Dillard and Thomasville Physicians to the Network
HealtheParadigm is pleased to announce the following network participants:
Dr. Bat, Dr. Jarrard and Dr. Register are all physician leaders in their respective communities, county medical societies and within the Medical Association of Georgia. As the first practices in the state to be a part of the exchange, we are excited for them to serve as advocates for our statewide mission and the product and services designed to make it a reality.

HealtheParadigm continues to extend educational opportunities across the state regarding the importance of preparing for MACRA and MIPS. Consider joining us on August 11 in Augusta at the Augusta Marriott Riverfront for the lunch and learn program, Enhancing Your QPP Strategies with HealtheParadigm with MAG at the Compass Practice Transformation Network conference. Register today at www.healtheparadigm.com.

Also just around the corner, the CME-worthy dinner program, Equipping Physicians for the Shift To Quality Payment Programs, is scheduled for the evenings of September 12 in Athens and September 13 in Thomasville. Additional details and registration will soon be available on the HealtheParadigm website.
MIPS TIPS - August's Focus is on Quality Measures
Selecting Your Quality Measures
Quality is 60 percent of your total MIPS score. The best way to increase your overall MIPS score is to report six quality measures. Now is the time to identify your quality measures to report. Visit the Quality Payments Program website https://qpp.cms.gov/ to review available measures. You must choose and report on at least one outcome measure. Once you have selected your measures, check to determine specific requirements. Most measures require that a patient has received care at your facility within the current calendar year, meet certain clinical conditions and have very specific documentation requirements. Examine which ICD10 and CPT codes are included in the measure. If diagnosis or procedures are not coded in the correct reporting format within your EMR, you will not receive credit for the measure even if you have completed it.

Improving Your Quality Scores
Once you have selected your measures, determine if your EHR system can generate a report that will tell you which patients are eligible to be included in the denominator. For example, if the measure you have selected is Diabetes: Foot Exam then only patients who have been in your practice in the measurement year and have diabetes will be counted in the denominator. The numerator will include those who had the foot exam and the resulting percentage is your quality score on this metric. To improve your reporting compliance, run a report that identifies all patients in the denominator without a documented foot exam. Assign this report to a staff person to contact the patients and schedule appointments for a foot exam before the end of the measurement period. This will not only generate more revenue for your practice, it also improves your MIPS quality score. If you need assistance with this process, HealtheParadigm sponsored by the Medical Association of Georgia can help. For more information, call Cardelia Reid at

Identify your high risk and high cost patients. The High Risk dashboard pinpoints your patients with many ED visits and with three or more chronic disease conditions. Sort them by payer and bill for chronic care management or assign a care navigator to reduce ED utilization where appropriate.
Increase your quality measure scores for MIPS by identifying other locations your patients have received preventive care and record this in your EHR. Increase your quality scores by identifying when a patient has received care and it has not been coded correctly to pass the measure. Identify gaps in care.

Learn if your patients readmit to other hospitals when they are discharged from your hospital's inpatient services. Where do they readmit and for what reasons?

Focus on population health and meet the MIPS Improvement Activities requirement. Understand disease prevalence in your community and region.
On Demand Video: HealtheParadigm Strategies for QPP Transition
In addition to the more traditional role (legislative advocacy) one might expect of a state medical society, MAG has expanded its advocacy efforts to include programmatic operations in support of patient centered care, care quality and patient safety. HealtheParadigm was launched in 2017 to support Georgia physicians and providers in electronically exchanging critical medical information for patients they share.

Initial analysis by MAG indicates less than five percent of physicians in Georgia are participating in any type of query-based health information exchange. This low percentage affects patient care and increases the administrative paperwork burden for the patient, the physician and the payers. With over 20,000 active physicians in Georgia and only a few sharing information, MAG is leading the way to ensure physicians have the tools they need to provide the safest care for patients and be successful in the new payment models.

On July 14, the Medical Association of Georgia and the Georgia Medical Group Managers Association hosted a webinar - Equipping Physicians for the Shift to Quality Payment Programs, which was attended by over 75 physicians, practice administrators and other health care professionals across Georgia. The presenter, Dr. Laura McCrary, Ed.D, Senior Vice President, KaMMCO Health Solutions, covered content critical to practice sustainability, including the "tool box" of products and services MAG-endorsed HealtheParadigm is promoting. It is a pleasure to share the recording of this informative and extremely well received program. To view this webinar click the green play image above.
