W e are getting very excited for this year's Golf Fore  the Cure  event, presented in partnership with Innov8 Digital Solutions . You may have heard our ad on  100.3 The Q  about the event.  Jim Pattison Subaru Victoria  has sponsored not only a hole-in-one car that all attendees have a chance to win, but also a $10,000 cash prize on a different par 3. Although we are still finalizing a few last minute details, we will be giving away up to $5,000 worth of prizes for both skill contests as well as draw prizes! We have had multiple organizations and community members come forward with donations for The Canadian Cancer Society as well and look forward to raising resources for this life changing charity. To register, visit   https://golfforethecure.waypointgolf.com/event/Highland-Pacific-Golf

Golf Fore the Cure will be held on Sunday August 20th and is a 2pm shotgun start. In previous years we have hosted this event on a Monday night to take the place of a 9 hole Ladies Night Out shotgun. This year we are excited to grow this event to include 18 holes and is open to both men and women. The dinner portion will be taking part in our newly renovated event space by the first tee. Included in the $149 + tax & processing fees is the 18 hole green fee, power cart, a tee-gift, chances to win some really amazing prizes, a roast dinner buffet and a $40 donation to the Canadian Cancer Society.

July Academy Tip

"Back to the Basics"

In an attempt to improve our game, it's very easy to get lost in the technicalities of the swing. A golf swing is much like a house. If you have any cracks in your foundation, everything you build on it will likely be flawed. Here are some simple tips to help improve your "foundation"

1. Grip Pressure - Grip pressure and arm tension is something that all golfers fight. On a scale of 1 to 10, feel like you're holding the club at a level 6. Golf is hard enough to play relaxed; tighten up and you won't have a chance.

2. Set Up - So many times students say there is a problem in their swing. Ninety percentage of the time the problem is most likely in their set-up. This usually results in poor posture. Make sure that your back is straight to allow for proper trunk rotation.

3. Alignment - Alignment is so important. Make sure that the line of your feet is parallel to your target line. Then make sure your knees, hips and shoulders are parallel to your feet.

4. Tempo and Balance - Tempo and balance go together like peanut butter and jelly. When you have the proper tempo, you create good balance. If you can finish a swing on balance, you have a much higher chance of getting a good result than if you are falling off balance during the swing.

Happy Golfing!

July Maintenance Update

The dog days of summer are upon us as we reach record setting temperatures and the last measurable rain 48 days ago on June 15th. The golf course is in very good conditions for summer golf.

The maintenance team has been working on some detail work over the last couple of weeks trimming sprinklers and valve boxes, touching up some of the benches and always doing a great job with the regular maintenance of the course.

We look forward to seeing you out there enjoying the golf course.

Highland Pacific Team Member Profile

Alana McIntyre, Executive Assistant here at Highland Pacific, is a committed, passionate individual that, at the age of 26, has surpassed her years in experience. Originally from Calgary, Alberta, Ms. McIntyre worked at a golf course from the age of 12 when she started as a 'junior volunteer.' Later, at the same course, she worked in the golf shop and helped to design and execute junior camps and ladies leagues. These formative experiences helped Alana develop a keen taste for variety in life.

Education was always important to Alana and she excelled in school, graduating with a Bachelor of Commerce with a Major in Finance from Dalhousie University. She also completed a semester in the International Business program at Grenoble Ecole de Management in Grenoble, France which fueled her interest in different cultures and far flung travel. Ms. McIntyre has visited scores of countries and highlights her 2014 adventure to Peru with her partner Garret as they backpacked through Central and South America for months on end as one of her favorite trips. After that trip Alana and Garret traveled to Vancouver Island for the first time to take part in a seven month permaculture and natural building internship at an ecovillage in Shawnigan Lake.

In her adult life Alana has held positions in a variety of business settings such as: an oil & gas firm, a law firm, an engineering firm, a public accounting firm and a public speaker's forum company where she further honed her skills relating to organization, accounting, office management and leadership. Highland Pacific Golf was fortunate enough to hire Alana in 2016 when she moved to Victoria and was looking for a job in a fun environment. Since then Alana has taken on a multitude of tasks as the 'Executive Assistant.' On any given day you may find Alana greeting golfer's in the golf shop, helping out with a junior camp, selling or executing an event or reconciling our accounts receivables and daily cash.

Alana McIntyre is an essential part of the Highland Pacific Team. If you see her here at the course take time to say hello. You will be pleasantly surprised by how calm Alana is despite how many things she has on the go and impressed with her hospitality skill. Dynamic people work at Highland Pacific Golf.
