Remembering C|M|LAW Hall of Fame Honoree
Judge Jean Murrell Capers '45
 
One of Cleveland-Marshall College of Law's most distinguished alumna, Judge Jean Murrell Capers, passed away Tuesday, July 18 at the age of 104, leaving an esteemed legacy as a trailblazer and civic activist.  Judge Capers graduated in 1945 from Cleveland Law School, a predecessor to Cleveland-Marshall College of Law.

C|M|LAW Dean Lee Fisher announced that Judge Capers will be honored as the first inductee selected to the recently announced Cleveland-Marshall College of Law Hall of Fame. She will be inducted into the inaugural Hall of Fame class October 19, 2017, at the Hall of Fame Celebration.

"Judge Capers epitomized our motto, 'Learn Law. Live Justice.' She will always be a legendary role model for our students," said Dean Fisher.




C|M|LAW Launches 'Pop-Up Practicums' as a New Approach to Practice-Based Learning 
C|M|LAW has launched new "pop-up practicums" where students will work closely with faculty in a short-term, practice-based experience in a legal issue important to them. C|M|LAW's program is one of only a small number of "pop-up" learning experiences in the nation. 

C|M|LAW Board of Visitors Appoints Buckley as Board Chair
Brent M. Buckley '82, managing partner of the law firm of Buckley King, has been appointed chair of the law school's Board of Visitors.  In the role, Buckley will also serve as a senior advisor to Dean Fisher, assisting in developing and implementing the law school's strategic plan.

Dean Lee Fisher co-authored a C leveland.com  op-ed article on the need for safeguards in Ohio's death penalty system.

C|M|LAW Alumni Blake and Pinney Named to Leadership Cleveland   
Two C|M|LAW alumni, Christopher Blake '99 and Jon Pinney '00, have been named to the Leadership Cleveland Class of 2018.

C|M|LAW's Solo Practice Incubator, along with attorneys Ashley Jones '11 and Ian Friedman '97, were featured in a  Crain's Cleveland Business  article on attorneys finding success in solo practice.

Professor Chris Sagers a ppeared on the CNBC's "Power Lunch" to discuss the likelihood of a federal antitrust investigation of Amazon. Sagers was also quoted by Bloomberg Law on the Amazon deal and in the Wall Street Journal concerning news media lobbying efforts.

C|M|LAA Members and Students Participated in free Legal Clinic

CMLAA members and C|M|LAW students participated in a free Legal Clinic sponsored by the Legal Aid Society of Cleveland and Volunteer Lawyers Program.  The Saturday, June 24 event was organized by Magistrate Pablo Castro '01, chair of the CMLAA Social Justice Committee.  The attorney volunteers, including nine CMLAW alumni, advised 30 clients!
