This Week at OML
This week at OML things were calming down from the excitement of the Mayors Conference in Idabel last week. Executive Director Mike Fina traveled to Tulsa on Thursday to speak with the United Cities about OML and what OML provides to cities and towns. As a whole, the staff is shifting towards focusing on the Annual Conference in September in Tulsa. On Tuesday, our Deputy Director of Internal Operations and General Counsel Sue Ann Nicely attended the Water Quality Management Advisory Council meeting at DEQ and on Thursday, Deputy Director of External Operations and Government Relations Missy Dean attended the Department of Labor meeting where they discussed the new PEOSH rules that go into effect on September 15. To open the week, OML was fortunate to be able to welcome back Cheryl Dorrance to assist in preserving OML's past as well as discuss research projects to further our knowledge to help municipalities.

Oklahoma Mayors And OML Board Gather In Idabel For Summer Conference
|
Last week in Idabel, the Mayor's Council of Oklahoma (MCO), the City of Idabel, and OML hosted the Mayor's Summer Conference. With over 63 attendees, the conference was a huge success. On Thursday the MCO Board and the OML Board met then the Golf Scramble took place. The non-golfers took a tour of the Wheelock Academy and Museum.
On Friday, there were tours of the Idabel Fire Department, the McCurtain County Regional Airport, and the Museum of the Red River. The Mayor of Oklahoma City, Mick Cornett, spoke to everyone about economic development. Newly appointed Executive Director Mike Fina spoke about the future of OML and what exciting changes Oklahoma's cities and towns can expect from the new administration.

Sand Springs Fireworks Ordinance Featured At The MCO Summer Conference
|
Mayor of Sand Springs, Mike Burdge, discussed an ordinance at the MCO Mayor's Summer Conference in Idabel this past week. This ordinance was recently passed allowing citizens to set off fireworks within city limits. The ordinance requires individuals to obtain a permit from the City to do so. Revised Form I-9 Now Available
|
USCIS released a revised version of Form I-9, Employment Eligibility Verification, on July 17. Instructions for how to download Form I-9 are available on the Form I-9 page. Employers can use this revised version or continue using Form I-9 with a revision date of 11/14/16 N through Sept. 17. On Sept. 18, employers must use the revised form with a revision date of 07/17/17 N. Employers must continue following existing storage and retention rules

Meet The People Of OML: Aspen Roberts
|
Aspen Roberts is the Legislative and Program Specialist and has been a team member with OML for two and a half years. Aspen assists Kelly Danner with her various secretariats and assists Sue Ann Nicely and Missy Dean with legislative issues. Aspen was born and raised in Choctaw, Oklahoma and has lived there for 24 years. She has a Labrador named Maverick and her hobby is visiting the lake with her family. OML thanks you for all of your hard work and appreciates everything you do!

The 2017 Legislative Session is over and it is time to start the process of planning for the 2018 legislative session. OML values the perspective of all members on legislative concerns and we encourage city officials to participate in the process so we will be prepared to present a united legislative effort. Please print and complete the
Legislative Request Form or complete the
Online Legislative Request Form by August 4th. The OML Legislative Committee will be voting on the issues on Wednesday, August 9th at 9:00 a.m. at OML. If you submit an issue, we would love to have you attend the meeting on the 9th to present it to the committee.

2018 Transforming Local Government Call for Case Studies
|
The Alliance for Innovation has released the Call for Case Studies for 2018 Transforming Local Government (TLG) presentations. Submissions must be from a local government - you are welcome to submit case studies (you don't have to be members of the Alliance to submit a case study). And furthermore, the innovative process may not have succeeded - but if there's a good story to tell with "lessons learned" - that's as valuable as the most successful implementations. Deadline is September 1st.
