Dear Friends:
If you are like me, I look forward to summertime as an opportunity to slow down a little bit, to get out of the ordinary routine, and in my case, a respite of attending one evening meeting or event after another as part of my professional responsibilities, allowing more of an opportunity to reflect. Lenore and I just returned from our annual vacation to Cape Cod, MA. Moments of solitude by Cape Cod Bay allowed me to reflect deeply about all that I am grateful for:
- For the beautiful hot, sunny, summer weather!
- For the vast ocean and the rejuvenating rhythm of the waves and tide!
- For moments of quiet reflection!
- For our nine month old grandson, Greyson's good health!!
- For the abundance of fresh fruits and vegetables!
- For the beauty of flowers in the garden!
- For the opportunity to help and serve others!
When we think about it, we realize there is so much to be grateful for on a daily basis. I am reminded of the scripture verse from 2 Thessalonians 5:18 -
Be joyful always, pray continually. Give thanks in all circumstances, for this is the will of God in Christ Jesus for us.
Showing gratitude to God means being thankful, counting our blessings, noting simple pleasures, and acknowledging everything we receive. Gratitude shifts our focus from what our life lacks to the abundance that is already present in our lives. Giving thanks for what God has given us strengthens relationships, improves our health, and reduces our stress. Gratitude is a powerful force that opens the door to God's blessing. Expressing thankfulness helps us remember that God is in control. It reminds us of the bigger picture, that we belong to God and that we are continually blessed!
Thank you, Lord, for all the blessings of this life!

St. John's Summer Service Schedule
- The summer service schedule will be at 9:00 am starting June 18th through September 3rd. Coffee hour will be hosted by the 9:00am greeters.
Our Little Free Pantry is available for those who in need of food for themselves and their family. Please consider donating non-perishable items to the pantry.
St. John's Summer Parish Project: Where Do You Find God?
As you travel and enjoy the summer, please stop and capture a picture of where you have seen God at work in the world. Perhaps a garden, the shore, with family and friends, or at a summer chapel? Send your pictures to [email protected] with a caption and title and we will share them in the glass walkway for all to enjoy!
St. John's Garden Scholarship Program

We are looking for interested high school students to take advantage of this opportunity to be eligible for a $1,000 scholarship upon graduation. Just 25 hours of garden volunteer work required. Time may be accumulated from year to year and student need not be a member of St. John's.Call Norma Pappalardo 860-944-5541 to sign up.

Spaghetti Dinner - To support the New Hartford Volunteer Ambulance Explorers. August 12th - 5pm-8pm at the Pine Meadow Volunteer Fire Co. Prices - $10 for Adults, $8 for Children and Seniors, under 5 years old is free. There will be a buffet style meal which includes Pasta, Salad, Bread, Drinks and Dessert. Donations are accepted and appreciated.

Covenant to Care for Children
Covenant to Care for Children Back to School Backpacks
- Our parish social worker, Michelle Chase, has asked us to help provide backpacks and school supplies for children. Your generosity is appreciated. Please place your donations in the container in the narthex. Thanks!
For elementary school students: Age appropriate books, small packets of tissues, colored pencils, crayons, drawing pad, erasers, glue sticks, journal, non-permanent markers, notebooks, pencils, sharpener, ruler, blunt scissors, toy key chains, binder, tape, etc.
For middle school/high school students: Age appropriate books, colored pencils, drawing pad, erasers, glue sticks, journal, non-permanent markers, colorful spiral notebooks, geometric stencils & compass, colorful file folders, loose leaf three hole paper, #2 pencils, red pens, notebooks, binder, tape, small stapler & staples, etc.
Please return items no later than August 6th. Michelle Chase will be here on August 8th to pick up all items. See Lucie Martocchio, our Parish Liaison, for any further information.
