ANAC member Austin Nation will present  his paper,  "Substance Use Experiences of HIV-Positive and HIV-Negative Young Black Men Who Have Sex With Men"   at the Sigma Theta Tau International Conference in Dublin, Ireland. He is a third year nursing doctoral student at the University of California San Francisco (UCSF)and a former fellow with the National Institute for General Medical Sciences Institute to Maximize Student Diversity. In addition to nursing scholarship and research, Austin is the writer/director of "We're All God's Children," a production written with the hope of addressing HIV stigma and fear in the Black faith community. He is the founder and president of Men in Nursing at UCSF and a member of the Golden Gate ANAC Chapter.

ANAC was featured in a recent publication by the University of Southern California entitled Achieving a Future of Global Health Literacy. It examined actionable strategies to achieve health literacy as a means to promoting equity and equality in global health.

Policy

Applications for the 2018 American Public Health Association Fellowship in Government are open. Candidates must have strong public health credentials and be able to spend one year in Washington, D.C. working in the House or Senate on legislative and policy issues. The application, including a CV and three letters of recommendation, is due to APHA by August 14, 2017. Click here for the application and complete information.

On July 17, JANAC sent a survey to its peer reviewers, members of the editorial board for the past seven years, and authors of manuscripts published in JANAC for the last two years, many who are ANAC members, to obtain feedback about the journal.  

If you received the survey link, the editorial board asks you to take a few minutes and complete the short survey. We would like your input to help the journal establish strategic planning priorities for the publication. Thanks to all who have already completed the survey.

ANAC members from Case  Western Reserve University School of Nursing and their AIDS Education & Training Center (AETC) colleagues are hosting a conference: Advanced Management in HIV Care in Cleveland, Sept 14-15.The conference will be an advanced focus on the management of patients infected with HIV.

Research

The Center for AIDS Research Adelante Program strives to develop early-career investigators who focus on HIV/AIDS treatment, prevention, and care in the Latino/Hispanic community. CFAR Adelante's RFP is open now with a due date of September 8, 2017. Applicants are required to have established a relationship with their CFAR Mentor and their Collaborating Partner prior to submission.

The AIDS Education & Training Center (AETC) National Coordinating Resource Center, in partnership with the University of Washington, with support from HRSA/HAB launches the AETC National HIV Curriculum (NHC). This online tool, offers FREE CME/CEU training for physicians, physician assistants, nurse practitioners and pharmacists, and is appropriate for clinicians of all levels. The NHC is comprised of six modules, each representing a different core competency identified as essential by HIV care experts.
