Update on Washington DC Activities

The House and Senate recently introduced the Training the Next Generation of Primary Care Doctors Act of 2017.  T he bipartisan bill would reauthorize the Teaching Health Center Graduate Medical Education (THCGME) Program, which produces primary care physicians who provide critical health care in underserved communities across the country. As this program is set to expire on September 30, 2017, the Training the Next Generation of Primary Care Doctors Act of 2017, would provide a sustainable source of funding to ensure this highly successful program can continue to train the future primary care physician workforce, particularly in rural and medically underserved areas. AACOM, alongside other national associations, led efforts to support the introduction of the House  and Senate versions of this important legislation (read more). Updates on the Transition to Single GME Accreditation System

View the updates on the transition to single GME accreditation system that were given by the  ACGME CEO Thomas J. Nasca, M.D., and the  2015-2016 AOA President Boyd R. Buser, D.O., during the AOA House of Delegates Meeting which took place on Friday, July 21, 2017.
AOA Opportunities Database Updates

The American Osteopathic Association (AOA) online database,  Opportunities, has been listing all currently AOA-approved programs. As we transition to the single GME accreditation system, programs will achieve ACGME accreditation and will drop their AOA approval status and therefore will no longer be displayed in Opportunities. To assist students in tracking these programs, the AOA created a new list of all AOA-approved programs that fully transitioned to ACGME accreditation.  View the Opportunities website to access this list.

In addition, the Opportunities website now also links to an ACGME Public Accreditation Data System (ADS) report that lists programs offering education in Osteopathic Principles and Practice. This list contains all ACGME-accredited Osteopathic Neuromusculoskeletal Medicine (ONMM) programs and programs that have received Osteopathic Recognition.
