A Century of Volunteers
Serving the Hungry
Dear Volunteer:

Since 1917, Catholic Charities has supported all who turn to us for help through services touching almost every human need. This month we celebrate the amazing role volunteers play in caring for the hungry.

Hunger is the number one reason that people turn to Catholic Charities and volunteers play a vital role in feeding those in need.  Volunteers work in food pantries, serving an evening supper, delivering food to seniors in their homes, growing food in our community gardens, and much, much more!

Read below for exciting volunteer opportunities and  www.volunteerbridge.com to learn more about how you can make a difference!
Cook County

Evening Supper Programs: Volunteers needed to pack bags, stock shelves, and assist clients in food pantries throughout Cook County. Help especially needed at our downtown Chicago location. Flexible hours available!

Hunger Walk: One in six people in Cook County - more than 807,000 men, women and children - are food insecure. They don't know when or where they will receive their next meal. Our food pantries seek to alleviate this injustice by providing nutritious meals to individuals and families to prevent them from going hungry. Join us on Saturday September 16th for the Annual Hunger Walk. All proceeds from walkers directly benefit our pantries. Please call for more details!

Youth Mentorship:  Make a difference in your community! Mentors are needed to work with boys in eighth through tenth grade from the Back of the Yards/New City community. Mentors must be at least 21 years of age, have reliable access to transportation, and pass a background check.

Lake County

Evening Supper Programs: This is a great way to interact with clients over a meal!  We're looking for groups to sponsor and/or serve individuals that are experiencing homelessness and hunger at our Round Lake and Highwood Locations. Sponsoring entails donating and serving a delicious hot meal to our guests. Please call for details!

Meals on Wheels: Many of our Meals on Wheels clients see but one face a day-that of our volunteers. Volunteers deliver a noontime meal for those who are home bound or unable to prepare their own food due to physical or mental difficulties throughout Lake County. This is a great role for a group or individual who has a few hours once a week or once a month. Substitute and seasonal volunteers are needed as well!

Community Garden: Do you have a green thumb? Do you want to help provide nourishing, fresh vegetables to our needy neighbors? Please come and help with our vegetable garden. All of the produce harvested goes to one of our food pantries or meal programs. We are looking for volunteers to help with weeding and harvesting. Days and times are flexible!
