Employer confidence slips in July

Massachusetts employer confidence meandered through the first full month of the summer, edging down during July but remaining well within optimistic territory. The Associated Industries of Massachusetts Business Confidence Index shed 0.3 points to 61.5 last month, leaving it 6.4 points higher than a year ago. The Index has gained ground in five of seven months so far in 2017. Read more here.

Citizens Bank and NECN are now accepting applications for the first Champions in Action of 2018, this time in the community arts category. The Champions in Action program provides financial, volunteer, and public relations support to local nonprofits. Read more here.

With the legalization in Massachusetts of medical marijuana, the issue of whether and to what extent employers may lawfully address an employee's use of medical marijuana, including an employer's refusal to employ users of medical marijuana, just got a bit less certain and more complicated.
