The Celebration starts at Garfield High School,

Note: Event will occur regardless of sun, rain, snow, or icy conditions!
9:30-10:50 AM: Workshops including several geared toward youth, in various high school classrooms (See next article for 4C workshop details.
11:00 AM -12:30 PM: Rally with speakers, poetry, and music in the Gymnasium
12:30 PM: March to Jackson Federal Building, 2nd & Madison, downtown Seattle
1:45 PM: Outside Rally at Federal Building, time approximate

MLK Day Workshop hosted by 4C and SCMM
Loving Our Girls Who Hold the Promise of the Universe Within
"Wellness Mentoring Circle" will be a single-gender intimate gathering, led by adult and peer mentors to help the young girls in the circle understand and manage life's challenges.
Limited to 10 to 15 girls aged 14-16, with four or five female mentors in the room. Leading the group will be
Hazel Cameron, Seattle Cares Mentoring Movement;
Patricia Valentine, certified grief and wellness counselor; peer facilitator
Alejianna Carrol, student Franklin HS; and peer facilitator
DaJohnna Walker, student Franklin HS.

PEN OR PENCIL (POP) Group Mentoring
Through POP, social action strategies evolve from the stories and exemplary courage of lesser-known, as well as widely recognized participants of the Underground Railroad, and the civil rights movement. The goal is to inform and inspire a modern youth movement of engaged planners, leaders, and decision makers.
- Serving youth ages 12-17
- Group Sessions use the PEN OR PENCIL mentoring curriculum.
- Mentors seek to inspire critical thinking, life skills development, and youth activism - encouraging youth to choose the road away from incarceration and toward higher education.

In January we're starting Pen or Pencil (POP) mentoring groups in:
-Central (Tuesdays)
-SE (Wednesdays)
-Kent (Thursdays)
-SW (Thursdays) We do not follow POP curriculum for this group.
Group Mentoring ... an experiential learning framework that inspires critical thinking, skills development and activism, helping youth to choose the road away from prison and jail towards a quality education.
