President's Corner

Dear Kiwanis Club of Omaha,

What a special meeting we had on Friday where we honored Joyce Swanson for 30 years of service in the club! Joyce was our first female member and she shared her insights on what it means to be a Kiwanian. As she mentioned, the club attracts and retains genuinely good people who want to help others. Thanks to everyone who helped us celebrate and thank you to Joyce for reminding us what Kiwanis is all about.

Friday, July 28th, we have a unique opportunity to tour the Lauritzen Gardens in lieu of our standard lunch meeting. We have just under 20 people registered so far and we would really like a stronger showing from our club. Please invite friends, family, and co-workers so we can proudly represent the Kiwanis Club of Omaha. Use THIS LINK to sign up!

As we enter the final two months of our fiscal year, I am reminded of our progress toward our goal of 100 members by our 100th anniversary in January 2019. We welcomed Blaine Carlin on Friday and we will introduce another new member very shortly, which brings our total membership to 77 (up from 70 at the start of this fiscal year). Let's use this momentum to our advantage and keep spreading the word about who we are and what we do. The more members we have, the greater our impact will be as we continue to improve the world, one child and one community at a time.

LAST MEETING

"Riverfront Development"

At our last meeting we heard from Rachel Halbmaier from the Omaha Chamber of Commerce on bringing activities and fun to the Riverfront area of Downtown Omaha, specifically, Lewis and Clark Landing. Ms. Halbmaier was appointed Executive Director of this project in February and works with a 30 member board including representatives from Omaha and Council Bluffs who would like to see more individuals and families making use of the riverfront area. Ms. Halbmaier brainstormed some challenges as well as some possibilities that the property holds. There will be some exciting news coming regarding plans there!
