The hottest topic in Nevada communities these days is the rising costs of housing and resulting lack of affordability. There simply isn't enough supply for the demand, and one of the biggest issues with providing that supply is the impact of NIMBYs (Not In My Back Yard). They are an emotional, vocal minority that spew false information and fear in an attempt to prevent project approvals. YouthBuild
Nevada Builders is happy to work with the Children's Cabinet and Community Services Agency (CSA) and the YouthBuild Program. This program provides qualifying youth (ages 16-24) with educational & construction skills training, leadership training, mentorship and career counseling. Upon completion, participants have completed their High School Equivalency (HSE) and OSHA 10, among other certifications and are ready to join the workforce. We are looking for employers from all sectors of the construction industry to hire these young, energetic and motivated individuals so that they can have a long and productive career in construction. The program is also always looking for mentors, speakers, site visits and material donations. If you would like to hire a recent YouthBuild graduate or can assist in any way, contact Pam.

Nevada OSHA News
Nevada has some major changes coming to our currently enforced reporting requirements to OSHA. The new requirement will be effective for Nevada employers on October 1,2017. Although the statute retains the 8-hour reporting requirement for fatalities, the amendment to NRS 618.378 will require employers to report to NV OSHA any accident or motor vehicle crash which results in the inpatient hospitalization of one or more employees, the amputation of a part of an employee's body or an employee's loss of an eye within 24 hours after the time the accident or the crash is reported to any agent or employee of the employer. These changes also require the employer to report the names of the employees who suffered fatalities, amputations, loss of an eye, or who were admitted to a hospital as inpatients.
