Photography Show Opens this Week
|
 The
Lakeside Photography Show will take place from Monday, July 30-Friday, Aug. 17 in the Hoover Auditorium lobby. The exhibit features entries taken by amateur photographers from Lakeside and the surrounding area.
The show's informal opening will be held at 7 p.m. Monday, July, 30. Photos may be viewed a half-hour prior to all Sunday Hoover Community Worship Services and all evening Hoover Auditorium shows or from 3-5 p.m. Sundays, Tuesdays and Thursdays.

Participate in Light Up Lakeside
|
 All are invited to take part in
Light Up Lakeside at 10 p.m. from Friday, Aug. 3-Friday, Aug. 10. The event is a combined effort of Lakesiders to celebrate the summer by showcasing the entire community in lights. Although winners will not be chosen this year, show your creativity by decorating your cottage, rental, camper, business or golf cart. Christmas lights, lanterns and luminaries are all encouraged.

Preacher of the Week: Bishop Sally Dyck
Supported by the Rev. Ruth C. Shannon Endowment
 Bishop Sally Dyck will serve as Lakeside's Preacher of the Week from July 29-Aug. 2. This week is supported by the Rev. Ruth C. Shannon Endowment. Bishop Dyck will preach at the Hoover Community Worship Service at 10:30 a.m. Sunday, July 29 in Hoover Auditorium.
Having grown up on a farm in rural Washington state and moving frequently around the country for her career, Bishop Dyck explains her geographic history in a unique way.

Chautauqua Lecture Series

U.S. Founding Fathers
The lives and legacies of key figures, as well as historical events leading to the establishment of the U.S. as an independent nation, will be explored by experts Edward Lengel, PhD, Chief Historian at The White House Historical Association and former Director of the Washington Papers, and Denver Brunsman, PhD, Associate Professor of History at George Washington University.

 Returning for an encore performance after a crowd-pleasing debut in 2017, country a cappella group
Home Free will bring their high energy show back to Hoover Auditorium. The
all-vocal country sensation has made their name by performing Nashville standards and country-dipped pop hits to crowds all over the country. This summer, the band is coming to Lakeside on the heels of their most recent full-length album release,
TIMELESS, bringing with them new music, new jokes and an entirely new production.

Steele Memorial Bandstand/Gazebo
 As an award-winning entertainer,
Rick Kelley masterfully blends comedy and music, presenting a powerful performance that's uplifting, motivational and energetic. Labeled "The Ultimate Icebreaker," Kelley has been described as "having the magic of totally engaging any audience." He uses retro Motown classics, R&B standards, customized songs and original children's music in each show with the perfect amount of audience participation.

Hoover Movie Night: "The Incredibles" (PG)
& Superhero Family Night
 At 8:15 p.m. Monday, July 30, Lakeside will feature
"The Incredibles" starring Craig T. Nelson, Samuel L. Jackson and Holly Hunter. Prior to the movie, families are invited to come dressed as their favorite superheroes. Beginning at 7 p.m., there will be activities for all ages and a costume parade at 8 p.m. This family event is coordinated by The Fine Print bookstore and Lakeside's Programming Department. In this Pixar animated film, married superheroes Mr. Incredible (voiced by Craig T. Nelson) and Elastigirl (voiced by Holly Hunter) are forced to assume mundane lives as Bob and Helen Parr after all super-powered activities have been banned by the government.

Steve Trash: Ecology is Awesome
 Steve Trash will bring his one-of-a-kind scientific show,
"Ecology is Awesome," to Lakeside. The show focuses on pollution, conservation, natural resources and the amazing connections that exist in the natural world. His one-man act, featuring music, tricks and explanations, has entertained more than 25 million people since 1984. He has appeared in theaters, fairs and festivals all over the world with his message of making the world a little bit greener. One of his career milestones includes creating the "Trash & Recycle Show" in 2007, which won the statewide Outstanding Project Award from the National Association of Resource Conservation & Development.

Lakeside Symphony Orchestra Concert "Musical Postcards" with Guest Conductor Matthew Kraemer & Violinist Jinjoo Cho
"Musical Postcards" will be presented by guest conductor Matthew Kraemer. Following an international search, Kraemer was appointed Music Director and Principal Conductor of the Indianapolis Chamber Orchestra in 2015. He also serves as Music Director of the Butler County Symphony and recently completed his fifth and final season as Music Director of the Erie Chamber Orchestra. The Lakeside Symphony Orchestra's third performance of the summer will feature
violinist Jinjoo Cho. A native of Seoul, South Korea, Cho moved to Cleveland at the age of 14 to study at the Cleveland Institute of Music.

Ted Vigil & Friends - John Denver Tribute
Ted Vigil is a singer/songwriter who will pay tribute to the music of John Denver. He began performing at the age of 10, developing his talents as a drummer and singer in school choirs and symphonic and jazz bands. In 2006, he took first place in the Talent Quest in Laughlin, Nev., which was a competition of contenders from 28 states, New Zealand, Australia and Canada. He then went on to win Komo TV 4's Afternoon Celebrity Look Alike Contest and has been using his likeness of Denver to pay tribute ever since. Performing with Vigil will be Cat Menzies (vocals & keyboard) and Amy Daves (fiddle).

Sandi Patty
Sandi Patty, one of the most awarded female vocalists in Christian music history, will return to the Hoover Auditorium stage. Throughout her
three-decade career, she has released more than 30 albums, earning three platinum records, five gold records and more than 11 million units sold. As one of the most highly-acclaimed performers, she has won five Grammy Awards, four
Billboard Music Awards and 40 Dove Awards, the most of any female artist.

 Walkers, joggers and runners of all ages will take to the streets of Lakeside on Sunday, July 29. The
One-Mile Fun Run begins at 8 a.m., followed by the
5k Raccoon Run at 8:30 a.m. The race course starts at Orchestra Hall, on the corner Second Street and Walnut Avenue, and ends on Third Street in front of Hoover Auditorium. Some street intersections will be barricaded during both events.

Shuffleboard Tournaments
 This week, the
Norma Faris Ohio Pre-Teen Singles and the
Norma Faris Ohio Junior Singles shuffleboard tournaments will take place. There is no entry fee, and all equipment is provided. Sign up at the courts opens at 8:30 a.m. and closes promptly at 9 a.m.
Important notes: A parent or guardian must sign an official release form, which is available at entry. OSSA rules require all players wear closed-toe shoes.

BGSU faculty expert on harmful algal blooms, Dr. Timothy W. Davis, will discuss the global trends in degrading water quality and the increasing prevalence of harmful algal blooms (HABs), lessons learned from the past and the current state of the science, as well as what needs to continue in the future to reduce the size, duration and toxicity of HABs in western Lake Erie.

Feast on hot dogs, baked beans, macaroni salad, chips, watermelon, cookies and lemonade. Bring your own reusable pates and utensils and a blanket or lawn chair, as picnic tables are limited. There is no charge, but a $4 donation is suggested to offset the cost. In the event of rain, the picnic will be cancelled.

Kids Needed to Deliver Lakesider Newspaper
At 9 a.m. Fridays, kids ages 10-15 are invited to the Legacy House, 217 Walnut Ave., to deliver
Lakesider newspapers.
On Saturdays, 12 children ages 6-10 are needed to hand out the
Lakesider on the Hoover porch from 7:30-8 p.m. Report to the porch at 7:15 p.m.
Volunteers will receive their choice of a free Coffee & Cream soft-serve ice cream coupon or miniature golf coupon.
