Meet Amanda!

Tell us about yourself

Hi! I'm Amanda and I am the owner/operator of Good Karma Juice! I'm also a recent graduate of Jen Ryan's YTT program and you can find me teaching some of the community classes at The Loft. I love to eat, travel, see live music, and cook!  I feel very strongly that my purpose in life is to help others on their journey so they can experience the same satisfaction and joy that I receive from yoga and living a healthy lifestyle. Every experience I have teaches me that the only constant in life is change. It's for that reason that I'm so grateful yoga has become a part of my life and it has taught me the benefits of letting go, the necessity of acceptance, and variations of strength- and I strive to share this with my community.

How did you find Yoga and the Yoga Loft

Serendipity...I found the Yoga Loft at a time in my life when I needed it the most.  I was experiencing a void that needed to be filled, and in my search I found The Loft and Jen Ryan. I immediately felt like I was at home.  The teachers always give you a taste of something new, a purpose to fulfill, or a challenge to overcome. As a result, you're always surprised at what you can accomplish and this leads to a sense of empowerment that keeps you coming back.
Pattabhi Jois said "Practice and all is coming". Trust the process! It's been about 3 years, and I look forward to every single class every single day because I've been astonished and humbled by the progress I've made mentally, physically, spiritually, and emotionally just from showing up on my mat.

What's your favorite yoga pose?

This was a hard question, but looking back I think I'd have to say Astavakrasana because it was my first arm-balance.  I'll always remember the sense of pride and accomplishment that rushed over me when I finally did it.  It's little "wins" like that which you experience in every yoga class that make you feel strong and empowered because you recognize that you're growing and making progress.

Tell us more about your business

It was on a vacation with my fiancĂ© that we stumbled on the Sivananda Yoga Ashram in the Bahamas. Totally by accident we were introduced to an entirely new concept and lifestyle called the "karma yogi."  These wonderful people from all over the world travel to Paradise Island, some for the first time and some for the 50 th  time, to leave their mark in the form of cooking, planting, gardening, building, teaching, learning, or helping. In return, they get to live and experience one of the most peaceful and amazing environments the world has to offer.  Returning home after this amazing experience, I was let go from my new job.
Over the course of about a week, I took the time to organize, focus, regroup, and ultimately starting playing with the idea of starting a business. I began with a logo, inspired from my recent travels, and called it "Good Karma Juice". Karma is the idea that every action has a reaction. I hope to empower people to make healthy choices through education. What you eat directly affects the way you look and feel!  My motto is "Nourish Inside & Flourish Outside".

From there, I began playing with recipes that included all the amazing vegetables and fruits I had incorporated into my life: celery for its alkalinity and balancing properties, kale for its vitamin K and iron, beets for their beta-carotene and detoxifying properties, carrots for their fiber and antioxidants, ginger for its anti-inflammatory and digestive properties, plus apples, strawberries, oranges, lemons, and more. I developed 4 recipes that I named Soulshine, Carrot Cake, Glow, and Zenergize.
Right now Good Karma Juice is a cold-pressed juice home/office delivery service with plans to expand to a retail location soon!

What are the benefits of cold pressed juice

The cold pressed process is more beneficial than any other because it uses low heat, resulting in less oxidation and a juice that has more nutrients and lasts longer- providing the body with a greater yield of vitamins, nutrients, and health benefits. All my recipes combine ingredients that work together with a purpose.
Soulshine is a green juice that helps with digestion, inflammation, hydration, and skin health.  The pineapple, mint, and lemon help promote a healthy digestive system, while the celery and apple help keep you hydrated. And let's not forget our superfood friend kale that gives this juice it's leafy green color and helps give you a burst of energy
Carrot Cake helps with inflammation, immune system boosting, and digestion.  Including a
nice kick of ginger, Carrot Cake is filled with root vegetables and a hint of apple and cinnamon.
Glow is a beet-based juice with carrots, apple, celery, ginger, and lemon which helps with all different types of digestive issues.  Filled with beta-carotene, this is a great supplement for coffee in the morning to energize your system.
Zenergize is also a green juice, but includes citrus for a zap of energy and a bunch of strawberries for their antioxidant properties!  Filled with vitamins, minerals, and enzymes, this Kale/Celery based juice provides a meal's worth of greens.
