Farm Notes: Summer Flavors G

This is now peak summer season. In each share is a great variety of different types of crops. The fruiting crops of tomatoes, cucumbers, peppers, eggplants and squashes tend to require a little more time to develop as they move from their vegetative stage to their fruiting stage. The root crops of beets, turnips, radishes and carrots take time to fill out their roots and are full of the nutrients of the soil. The alliums of garlic and onion add a wonderful flavor to our dishes. The various greens of chard, kale, spinach, lettuce and arugula are some of the fastest growing and are packed with nutrients. The wide array of herbs including chives, basil, parsley, cilantro and mint add twists to our foods.

Savor the flavors of the summer season.

This is the time of year that I make batches of ratatouille almost every week. It's easy to make, comforting but light enough for summer, and versatile. I serve it over polenta, goat cheese grits, pasta and even as a pizza topping. This week, here are five different ways to prepare this delicious French stew. -Ginger
Vegisode of the Week:
Grate Expectations Part 1: Grilling Produce!

Grate Expectations: Part 1
Grate Expectations: Part 1

In this VEGISODE™, Stacey and Denise go outdoors and show you the basics of grilling vegetables.

Check out all our Vegisodes and subscribe to be notified when timely new videos are added. These videos are designed to help you make the most of your CSA share with tips on storing, preparing and preserving your veggies.

As the summer progresses we'll be adding more local and seasonal products.  For the food preservers in the group, we will be offering bulk quantities of some of our vegetables and fruits, on weeks that we have extra available.
