Welcome Back Knights!

I hope everyone enjoyed a wonderful summer break. All signs point to another incredible and productive school year.

As you will see in this latest issue, our teachers and staff have been preparing for a successful start to the 2017-2018 school year. While the teachers worked in their classrooms and met many of our families last week (below) our enthusiastic office team has been registering new families, ordering needed materials and updating student files. Our hard working and conscientious custodians have spent the entire summer thoroughly cleaning the facility. And, our much-appreciated PTSA is gearing up to welcome families, provide volunteer opportunities, and offer other exciting events and programs (more on our dynamic PTSA and the value in family membership to LNMS further below).

Lake Nona Middle School is indeed a joyous and caring community with the common goals of nurturing responsible, motivated students and promoting high-level learning. Please know that we are all very excited to welcome our Knights back Monday morning. Thank you very much for sharing your child with us again this school year!

In KNIGHT Honor,

Stephanie R. Jackson, M. Ed.
Principal, Lake Nona Middle School

Knight Crew
Meet Mr. Berson!

Our new 8th grade dean, Mr. Steven Berson, comes to us from the Jersey City Public Schools. He was the Dean of Discipline with duties that included Crisis Intervention, Anti-Bullying Specialist, and Special Education Teacher. Mr. Berson was also the Assistant Head Varsity Football Coach at Ferris High School  and Union City High School in Union City, New Jersey. He graduated from Rutgers University where he was on the football team and was a recipient of an athletic scholarship.

Welcome to the Kingdom Mr. Berson!

Attention 7th Grade Parents

tdap

ALL 7th grade students for 2017-18 school year need the Tdap (Tetanus) shot prior to the first day of school in August. These shots must be recorded on the original Florida Certificate of Immunization (HRS 680) form.

The Tdap shot documentation is required by the state of Florida in order to attend 7th grade.

Students will NOT be able to attend classes on the first day of school without the proper documentation.

Academic Integrity

Medieval knights' behavior was described in their Code of Chivalry and published in poems, ballads and literary works of medieval authors. LNMS is incorporating a social media tag to market our school with respect to our students developing an understanding of the importance of academic integrity.

Knight Heros
Lake Nona Middle School is now a HERO school!

HERO encourages positive student behavior choices. When students demonstrate HERO behaviors, they may earn points toward exciting incentives. We invite students and parents to register your own HERO account so we may keep the lines of communication between home and school open. Once you register online, you may download the HERO app to receive push notifications about your student's HERO behavior throughout the day. Students and guardians will each have a unique Hero login account.

PTSA

Attention Knight Kingdom,

The Lake Nona Middle School PTSA needs your help. We are looking for members to come join this great group. Being involved in PTSA could mean just reaping its benefits or it could mean volunteering, assisting, helping out, and being totally involved in your child's school.

For each member that signs up with a donation of $10.00, the Lake Nona Middle School PTSA is rewarding their members with this wonderful discount card. On this card, you can receive discounts in restaurants, activities, and more. The card is listed below.

Please visit: http://lnmsptsa.ourschoolpages.com/Home and click join!

Thank you for supporting our Knights in 2017-2018!

Knight Comradery!
A special outing for our Knight teachers just prior to the start of the 2017-2018 . . .

Our PTSA sponsors many wonderful events throughout the school year for both students and teachers. However, leading up to the start of school they went that extra mile with a special teachers' bowling trip. As you can see here, the teachers had a great time together . . . thank you PTSA!

The teachers truly had a fun time together during their bowling outing. Tomorrow morning, August 14th, they are all extremely excited to welcome back our Knights to the first day of school!
