A Message From Our Chief Medical Officer, Dr. Robert Robison

Aetna Better Health of Ohio is committed to ensuring our members receive the care they need and deserve.

As you may know, Aetna Better Health of Ohio's Utilization Management (UM) department must sometimes review and authorize care or services for our members. All providers should be aware that UM decision-making is based only on appropriateness of care and service and the existence of coverage.
Aetna does not specifically reward practitioners or other individuals for issuing denials of coverage and financial incentives for UM decision-makers, and does not encourage decisions that result in underutilization. Our goal is always to provide the right care, in the right place, at the right time for our members.
Summer 2017

Cultural Competency Training

Providers and their office staff are responsible for ensuring all services, both clinical and non-clinical, are provided in a culturally competent manner and are accessible to all
patients.

This includes those with limited English proficiency, limited reading skills, hearing incapacity, or those with  diverse cultural and ethnic backgrounds.

Providers should ensure that patients are effectively receiving understandable, respectful and timely care compatible with their cultural health beliefs, practices and preferred languages from all staff members. Providers should also honor members' beliefs, be sensitive to cultural diversity, and foster respect for members' cultural backgrounds.

If you have not previously completed Cultural Competency training please take a moment to watch the video below and visit HRSA's website where you can learn everything you need to know.

Once completed, click the link below to acknowledge you have reviewed all of the material.

Provider Appointment Availability Survey

Beginning in August, Aetna Better Health of Ohio will be conducting a critical telephonic survey to assess appointment availability and patient wait times for our provider network. If you receive a phone call for the survey, please participate and complete the survey. Not only does this survey help us to understand our members' access to appointments, but it also helps us identify gaps in our provider network. Completing the survey goes a long way to helping Aetna Better Health of Ohio ensure member and provider satisfaction.
Healthchek

Healthchek is Ohio Medicaid's  Early Periodic Screening, Diagnosis, and Treatment (EPSDT) program. This program is for babies, children, and young adults under the age of 21 who are eligible for our plan. The purpose of the program is to detect health problems early, and then provide further diagnosis and treatment as covered by Medicaid and Aetna Better Health of Ohio afterwards.

Healthchek services include:
  • Physical exams
  • shots
  • Vision, dental, and hearing exams
  • Lead screening
  • Developmental screenings

Twelve checkups, at regular intervals, are covered for a child's first three years of life, and one annual checkup thereafter under the Healthchek program.

female_belly_weight_loss.jpg BMI Intervention

Did you know that Adult BMI Assessment is a HEDIS measure? Calculating a patient's BMI at every visit can be a good opportunity for providers to become compliant with the measure and create a chance to discuss exercise, a healthy diet and portion control with the patient.
Encouraging Patients to be Smoke-Free
Medicaid recipients make up the largest group of smokers in the state of Ohio, equaled only by the uninsured. That is why, as a healthcare professional, you are our greatest ally in encouraging our members to give up tobacco products forever.

The best available resource for all Ohio Medicaid recipients to get no-cost coaching, counseling, and assistance is the Ohio Tobacco Quit Line. If one of your patients is ready to quit, or even curious about quitting, tell them to call 1-800-QUIT-NOW, or visit http://ohio.quitlogix.org today. Aetna Better Health of Ohio members are also able to receive no-cost smoking cessation medication, as well as nicotine patches and lozenges. For more information call our Provider Services department at 1-855-364-0974 (option 2), or visit www.aetnabetterhealth.com/ohio.

Fee Table

Providers must bill according to CMS and Medicaid guidelines. It is also the provider's responsibility to be familiar with the latest billing practices.   Aetna is not responsible for instructing providers how to correctly bill for services.

Also, providers should frequently check the state's Fee Schedule & Rates website as updates are always occurring to the fee schedules for Medicaid.
