Happy 8th Birthday Meyer Group Architecture!
On the 17th of June, Meyer Group Architecture celebrated our 8th Birthday! We wanted to take the time to thank you for all of your support through the years. We have had eight amazing years! We are very thankful to our clients, consultants, contractors,

Waaswaaganing Living Arts & Culture Center

Waaswaaganing Indian Bowl Living Arts & Culture Center had their very first Pow Wow on July 4th! They did a dedication ceremony, Pow Wow and fire works. The turnout was great for this very special event.

University of Minnesota-Duluth, 4th Floor Humanities Renovation
DULUTH, MINNESOTA

UMD determined that the office space on the 4th Floor of the Humanities Building needed to be laid out to be more functionally effective. The current layout of the office is segmented and doesn't provide office space for enough faculty members. We are proposing two different floor plans. The first plan involves demolishing interior walls and adding window walls to the interior hall space, providing a more open concept, allowing light into the office from multiple directions. The other option involves leaving existing walls in place, adding only furniture to accommodate up to 12 faculty and staff members. Both options involve centralizing and consolidating the Reception area. In either scenario, utilizing partially glazed panel systems to create personal office spaces for faculty, will allow light to move through the space and will encourage collaboration and communication.

University of Minnesota-Duluth, Bohannon Hall Suite 116 Program Development

Bohannon Hall, Room 116 is the office space for four Education and Human Services Professions Faculty and Staff members. This space is currently divided by a tall panel system, awkwardly isolating spaces, creating dark corners and diminishing the ability to collaborate. Our proposal is to open the space, while continuing to provide separation of areas and creating new functional areas. Three of the four Faculty and Staff work closely together, so their space is being kept open and connected. The 4th member of this group needs more privacy, so their office area is divided from the others. An organized work room is being designated in the back corner of the space and a reception area is open to one of the three connected spaces. The functionality of this space will be greatly improved in layout alone. Using partially glazed panel systems and low furniture, to allow light from the wall of windows to penetrate the room, will open up and unite the spaces.

West Theater Renovation
DULUTH, MINNESOTA

Meyer Group Architecture was selected to assist in the restoration of the West Theater, one of two remaining Art Deco style theaters left in Duluth-Superior. The theater was constructed in 1937 and has been in and out of operation ever since. We will be restoring the building to its original Art Deco theater aesthetic and purpose. The venue will show classic, alternative film, live music, as well as host community events.

Empire Block

Empire Block has been moving along great. Demolition is now completed and they have cleaned the masonry. They will be putting in the windows next. We are excited to see Empire Block coming along great!

Waa Wiye Gaa Maag Community Center
SQUAW LAKE, MINNESOTA

Meyer Group Architecture is excited to be working with the Leech Lake Band of Ojibwe to develop the Waa Wiye Gaa Maag Community Center, a mixed-use remodel and rehabilitation of the 1950's brick and block elementary school that is no longer in use. When completed, the Community Center will also include a housing wing, a play ground, meeting space, pow-wow grounds, and camp ground area.

"Imagine Sandstone" Downtown Redevelopment

The City of Sandstone, MN has hired Meyer Group Architecture to design updated storefronts for several of their downtown buildings. This is a part of the "Imagine Sandstone" Redevelopment Program that hopes to revitalize the downtown area.

Fond du Lac Safety & Security Study

Meyer Group Architecture is delighted to be working for the Fond Du Lac Band of Lake Superior Chippewa to develop a comprehensive safety and security assessment for the Fond Du Lac Tribal Center, Sawyer Community Center, Brookston Community Center, and WKLK Cluster.

Principal Architect, Tim Meyer, AIA attended the AIA Wisconsin Convention held on May 17-18 at Monona Terrace in Madison, Wisconsin. One of his favorite seminars he attended was the 2018 AIA National President, Carl Elfante presented his new agenda for AIA which includes goals of assisting in carbon neutrality globally by 2050 and reduction of global warming. Carl also expressed the need for the sustainable growth of cities and diversity in our profession.

Principal Architect, Tim Meyer, AIA attended
the 2017 Duluth Energy Design Conference at the DECC in Duluth. Great seminars on energy conservation, efficient and clean energy. Thanks to Minnesota Power for sponsoring this great event.

Superior Chamber of Commerce's Business After Five event at the
Blaine Business Center. We were happy to see everyone. Thank you to those that stopped by to chat with us and see our Superior office. We had a great time! Thank you to the Blaine Business Center for hosting such a great event as well!

GaoChy went to San Francisco in April to attend her uncle's wedding. While she was in the beautiful city, she was able to explore the city. Walking from Downtown to Chinatown to Lombard St to the Fisherman's Wharf, it was a great seeing the city from another angle! She also was able to hike in Muir Woods! She recommends going on the boat tours by the Fisherman's Wharf. It's a great way to see San Francisco from the bay and get a different perspective of the Golden Gate Bridge! She definitely recommends visiting San Francisco if you've never been!

Jamie and his family have been continuing their Northland explorations. They have been hiking, biking, and have recently added paddling to their list of adventures. In May, Jamie and his little family was able to spend three days in the beautiful BWCA wilderness for their first time. They are happy to say that they survived! They are excited and can't wait for their next trip!

Erik has had a busy summer studying for the ARE exams, house hunting in Duluth, utilizing the facilities at the YMCA, and planning his wedding this past June. This spring and summer has been benevolent in supplying several lovely days which he has taken advantage of by walking the lakewalk and hiking the SHT. He has been enjoying spending time with family and friends. He wants the thank his realtor, Deanna, for her patience. He wishes his friends, Mike and Haley, good fortune as they begin their 2 year Peace Core journey in Mongolia. He wants to thank his coworkers for making every day at Meyer Group as delightful as the last. Erik is happy to announce he is now married and excited that he and his wife have moved into their new home near Chester Park!

Ashley welcomed a nephew who was born in mid March at a whole seven pounds, he is now 11lbs. She graduated in May with a Masters in the Science of Architecture from North Dakota State University. A day after graduation she left for Europe. S
he spent time in Barcelona and Paris and was able to see so many amazing things. The Sagrada Familia, Effiel Tower, and Notre Dame were her
favorite pieces of architecture she saw on my trip. Ashley loved all of the food but the tapas, crepes, and macaroons were her favorite. She saw thousands of pieces of art, the Mona Lisa was remarkable, but much smaller than she imagined. After her Europe trip, she went to California for a week to visit family. She spent a lot of time hiking in the redwoods and by the water. After all of her travels, she moved into her apartment here in Duluth, MN. Ashley is now working full time here at Meyer Group and couldn't be more excited!

Summer has been a delightful time for me and my family. She attended a mother/son dance with her son in March, where they took a limousine ride to the dance, ate delicious food, and danced a lot. It was a great spending time with him! Competitive soccer season is in full swing, so they have been traveling to tournaments to watch Dominic play. He has two more tournaments this season. He's gained a lot of confidence since last year and has taken on a team leader role for his teammates. He's a joy to watch and cheer for. They've been busy sprucing up the house and yard, anxiously awaiting the baby, due this month. The nursery is painted and set up, there's new patio furniture to relax on, and the vegetable garden is planted. Ryan even built a shed to keep the garden tools in!

Rebecca and her family enjoyed a nice break earlier this spring on Sanibel Island, Florida. While there they saw many interesting birds and other wildlife, and spent part of one day fishing. The weather was wonderful and they loved the break from early April Duluth temperatures. They anticipate enjoying many outdoor activities this summer.
