My Second Family by Jade Winfield
I was 6 years old when I was introduced to Indian Summer Camp. Honestly, I was terrified. Yet here I am, 11 years later, and it's still my favorite place to go each year. Eleven years of my life has been spent making so many new friends with people who share a love for life; 11 years of having my wishes of being a normal kid come true. I am no longer a nervous 6-year-old, but a bold 17-year-old graduating from a place that shaped me, from a place I never want to leave. Not only has Indian Summer Camp been a huge blessing for me in the past, but Kids Cancer Alliance has become a blessing for my future as well. I recently was chosen to receive a four year scholarship to go toward my college education. This is a gift from people that have become my second family, a gift that I will forever be thankful for. With this scholarship, I plan to further my education at Eastern Connecticut State University pursuing a Bachelors of the Arts in Social Work. I hope to have my own practice for kids who were like me and who need someone to show them that they are not alone, just as Kids Cancer Alliance has done for me.
Indian Summer Teen Camp
The teen aged campers of Indian Summer Camp set out for a tropical adventure recently with a week of reuniting with old friends, meeting new ones, and enjoying the great activities camp provides. They had a fantastic time with a glow night, field trip to Champs, building and learning to play their own ukeleles, recording their own camp song, playing archery tag, fishing, swimming, and so much more. They had a blast with a week that was created just for them and built strong bonds that will last a lifetime. The week ended with a closing campfire celebrating the Indian Summer Camp graduates and the much anticipated camp dance. Thank you to all of our sponsors, volunteers, and supporters for helping make Indian Summer Camp such a special place for the campers.
