PAWS for Reading - End of Year Celebrations

As the school year comes to a close, many of our PAWS for Reading and PAWS PreK teams who visit at school have sent in pictures and stories from their classroom visits. It is fantastic to see so many smiles and hear about not only improvement in reading but also increased self confidence and less or no more fear of dogs! Thank you all for making these things possible!

Here is just one of the wonderful e-mails.

"A class of 3-year-old children at the Early Learning Center made a lot of progress this year learning how to be safe around dogs. Children who were afraid of Sienna last September became comfortable petting her and giving her treats. They learned to ask "May I pet your dog" and hold out a hand for for the dog to sniff before approaching and petting a dog. Sienna is a welcome visitor and enjoys outdoor walks with the class. The children practice how to walk a very patient Sienna with heels and halts in the school hall. Preschool class 6 gets a big high five for a fun year and a great job."

Thank You for Helping Us DO MORE

PAWS for People thanks everyone who participated in Do More 24 Delaware, the special statewide campaign powered by the United Way of DE, on June 1st.

We appreciate everyone who shared the 'magic' of PAWS through social media.

We are grateful to Barnes & Noble at Christiana Mall for welcoming the community to come and  learn about PAWS for Reading, meet PAWS pet therapy teams, and support Do More 24 Delaware.

Special thanks to our 65 donors' generous online support of $2,237 to fund PAWS' Spring Appeal.

We are also in the running for special prizes... thank you to all our great supporters!

PAWS for People is always striving to DO MORE - 365 days a year -  to change lives with pet therapy!

Shining Stars
Brenda Zappo & Penny
Brenda and her adorable Sheltie, Penny, joined PAWS in August of 2015. Since then, this Advanced team started visiting at Brookdale White Chapel and became a PAWS for Reading Team. As a Reading team, they visit with the students of Brader Elementary School. Brenda and Penny are also a PAWS in the Workplace team, visiting with Compassionate Care Hospice. What a great team!
Charlotte Kosiek, Jonathan Barton, Zara, RJ, & Sylvi
Charlotte joined PAWS in April of 2013. As a nurse, Charlotte wanted to combine her love of pets with her love of caring for people. In August, she was joined by her son Jonathan. Together, they have three PAWS certified German Shepherd Dogs, Zara, RJ and Sylvi. In December of 2016, Charlotte and Zara became Master's Certified! Charlotte and Jonathan enjoy visiting and sharing their dogs at Cadia Broadmeadow, Union Hospital, the New Castle County Detention Center and many Community Events. What a terrific team!
