Hello friends, 

This is a challenging time in Connecticut, with no budget yet in place. Please know that we are staying on top of events to identify opportunities to advocate for you.

The good news: resources to end homelessness have strong support from both parties and the Governor, due to your good work and the results you have shown. That's important as budget negotiations continue. 

Meantime, CCEH staff attended the National Alliance to End Homelessness Annual Conference in July so that we can stay up to date, and bring back to Connecticut what we learned to share with you. Please see our summaries of key sessions, below, and let us know if you have any questions or comments.

2017 National Conference on Ending Homelessness

CCEH staff and colleagues from across Connecticut attended the National Alliance to End Homelessness Annual Conference in Washington, D.C. from July 17-20.

NAEH leadership highlighted Connecticut's great work throughout the conference - CCEH staff presented in multiple sessions, demonstrating that Connecticut is a leader in the field and that we are advancing the model for ending homelessness.

New Reach's Careways Shelter to Close

The Careways shelter in New Haven will be closing its doors due to budget cuts. The shelter, operated by New Reach, served children and families. 

"This is a difficult time for our state and the families that we serve. We are doing all we can - and we can do a lot - to limit negative impacts on our clients and the community we serve," Kellyann Day, Executive Director of New Reach said. "Closing Careways is an unfortunate but necessary step to ensure our other shelters remain financially secure."
VI-SPDAT and SPDAT Policy and Procedures Updated

The Department of Housing, in conjuncture with the help of the Connecticut Coalition to End Homelessness and Coordinated Access Network providers, have updated and revised the policy and procedure on administering the SPDAT and VI-SPDAT.

Decisions to administer the SPDAT must be made within local CAN housing matching meetings. Trainings  on the SPDAT are now available through CCEH on a quarterly basis.

Training and Technical Assistance Coordinator Position

The Connecticut Coalition to End Homelessness is hiring for the position of Training and Technical Assistance Coordinator. Applications are due August 4th. 

The Training and Technical Assistance Coordinator provides critical planning support to help deliver high quality training and technical assistance.  Reporting directly to the Deputy Director, this position plays an important role in providing support to frontline providers serving people experiencing homelessness, and moving initiatives forward to create momentum towards ending homelessness.
