Vito "Babe" Parilli, a 1982 College Football Hall of Fame inductee from Kentucky who quarterbacked the Wildcats for Hall of Fame coach Bear Bryant from 1949-51, passed away July 15 in Parker, Colo. Born May 7, 1930, he was 87. Parilli brought Kentucky national recognition as he introduced Bear Bryant's "T" Formation that baffled opponents and spectators alike. 
Nomination forms for the NFF's coveted National Scholar-Athlete Awards, presented by Fidelity Investments, have been sent to collegiate sports information directors. The deadline for submissions is Thursday, Aug. 31.

Eligible candidates must be a senior or graduate student in their final year of eligibility; have a cumulative 3.2 GPA (undergrad); be a starter or significant contributor; and have outstanding leadership and citizenship. Official transcripts as well as a head shot and action photo of the nominee are required.

Each member of the NFF National Scholar-Athlete Class will receive an $18,000 postgraduate scholarship. One honoree will be selected as the winner of the NFF William V. Campbell Trophy, presented by Fidelity Investments, and will have his scholarship increased to $25,000. All members of the class will be honored guests at the 60th NFF Annual Awards Dinner at the New York Hilton Midtown on Dec. 5.

The NFF announced that the Chick-fil-A Peach Bowl will host the 13 th  Annual National Hall of Fame Salute on Monday, Jan. 1, 2018. Taking place at the new Mercedes-Benz Stadium and just steps from the College Football Hall of Fame in the heart of Atlanta, the event will utilize the Bowl to showcase the 2017 College Football Hall of Fame Class after their formal induction at the 60th NFF Annual Awards Dinner on Dec. 5 in New York City. The game will be nationally telecast on ESPN beginning at 12:30 p.m. ET.

July, Attic Treasures Special Exhibit
"Attic Treasures" opened July 13 in the Specialty Exhibit delivered by UPS,  displaying a wide range of memorabilia and artifacts that go beyond the typical collection. The exhibit features uncommon and unconventional items, including dirt from the field where the first college football game was played (College Field at Rutgers University, November 6, 1869), a football made entirely of alligator skin produced to commemorate the Gator Bowl and several unique busts, to name a few.

Sept. 1, Atlanta's "All-In" Championship Luncheon: The Atlanta Football Host Committee will celebrate the start of the 2017 college football season with Atlanta's "All In" Championship Luncheon at the Hall. The special event will offer attendees insight into the upcoming season from members of ESPN College GameDay and ABC's Saturday Night Football. Guests will hear directly from the College Football Playoff on what to expect this January when Atlanta hosts the CFP National Championship. The final segment will provide guests with an exciting look at the new state-of-the-art Mercedes-Benz Stadium opening days before the luncheon.

NFF Board Member Jerry Jones' Dallas Cowboys once again top Forbes' list of "The World's 50 Most Valuable Sports Teams." Also on the list are NFF Board Member Robert Kraft's New England Patriots at No. 6. 

FOX Sports announced its lineup of broadcasters for the upcoming college football season, which includes 2017 College Football Hall of Fame electee Matt Leinart (Southern California), who will again serve as a studio analyst for pregame, halftime and postgame coverage on FOX and FS1.

College Football Hall of Famers  Tom Cousineau (Ohio State) and Tim Krumrie (Wisconsin) will be in attendance at the 2017 Big Ten Kickoff Luncheon July 25 at the McCormick Place Convention Center in Chicago.

College Football Hall of Fame coach  Bill Snyder is planning to write a children's book titled, Take it From Me.

Arizona State will dedicate its game on Sept. 9 against San Diego State to College Football Hall of Fame coach Frank Kush, who passed away last month.

The watch list was released for the Wuerffel Trophy, which is named in honor of College Football Hall of Famer and 1996 Campbell Trophy winner Danny Wuerffel (Florida) and awarded annually to the a college football player who displays exemplary community service.

2013 Campbell Trophy winner from Penn State and current Baltimore Raven John Urschel recently led a fun and interactive science, engineering, technology and math lesson with Math Academy students in Baltimore County

2016 NFF National Scholar-Athlete Zay Jones (East Carolina) was named to the  2016-17 American Athletic Conference All-Academic Team.

2016 NFF National Scholar-Athlete DeVon Edwards was named Duke's Male Senior Student-Athlete of the Year for 2016-17.

2010 NFF National Scholar-Athlete and current SEC Network analyst  Greg McElroy (Alabama) will host a new show,  Thinking Out Loud, which will air on the network Monday nights at  7 p.m. ET from Sept. 4 - Dec. 4.

2017 NFF John L. Toner Award recipient and UCLA athletics director Dan Guerrero was named the 23rd most powerful person in Southern California sports by The Orange County Register.

2011 NFF Outstanding Contribution to Amateur Football Award recipient  Verne Lundquist, one of the iconic figures in college football broadcasting,  served as the emcee for the American Athletic Conference Summer Kickoff and Media Days in Newport, R.I.

2010 NFF National High School Scholar-Athlete  Lonnie Hackett  has received an international scholarship to study at Oxford University for a year.

The NFFCHOF Bill Dooley (N.C.) Chapter  held its annual Pigskin Preview July 20 at the Embassy Suites in Cary, N.C. The event features insights from the five local college head coaches on the upcoming season. Expected to attend are Duke's  David Cutcliffe , N.C. State's  Dave Doeren , North Carolina's  Larry Fedora , North Carolina Central's  Jerry Mack and East Carolina's  Scottie Montgomery .
 
The NFF Touchdown Club of Houston Chapter hosted a luncheon featuring Baylor head coach Matt Rhule today at the JW Marriott Houston. On July 29, the chapter will hold its Inaugural Poker Tournament at Whitmeyer Distillery in Houston.
