Mark your calendars for the 2017 Newcastle Days celebration at Lake Boren Park! The fun officially kicks off Sept. 8 with a community talent show. The main festival is Sept. 9, featuring food, vendors, live music, games and more.

We'll be updating the official Newcastle Days 2017 webpage throughout the month of August. Check back often to see what's in store for this year's event.

Moonlight Movie Night is Aug. 16

Moonlight Movie Night at Lake Boren Park is back! On Wednesday, Aug. 16, join us at dusk (about 8:45 p.m.) as we screen "The Secret Life of Pets" at the Newcastle park.

Tastyz will begin selling kettle corn and shaved ice at 7:30 p.m. A special thanks to event sponsor Waste Management!
City Council Holds Budget Retreat

The Newcastle City Council held its annual budget retreat at Newcastle City Hall on Aug. 4. The daylong meeting served as a key step in setting the foundation for the 2018 budget.

City staff and councilmembers looked at city revenue projections for the coming years, proposed expenditures and more.

Safety Tips: Solar Eclipse Viewing on Aug. 21 

On Aug. 21, the United States will experience its first total solar eclipse since 1991 and the first to move across the entire mainland of the country since 1918.

solar eclipse happens when the Moon passes in between the Earth and the Sun. While this rare occurrence may be exciting, safety is a concern. Looking directly at the Sun during a solar eclipse could severely hurt your eyes.

Travel back in time to the middle ages with Knights of Veritas, and discover how personal combat really worked amongst the warrior elite. Featuring faithful replica swords and armor, authentic medieval artifacts, and more!

Newcastle Businesses to Receive Free Stormwater Spill Training

The City of Newcastle is excited to participate in the Puget Sound Spill Kit Program, which gives local businesses the tools to do their part in keeping pollution out of Puget Sound.

We're partnering with  ECOSS - Sustainable Solutions for All to provide a free stormwater spill kit, custom spill plans and training to 25 businesses in Newcastle over the next few months. An ECOSS representative should be reaching out to local businesses soon.

Concerts in the Park Series Comes to a Close

Newcastle's four-part summer concert series came to a close on Aug. 9. Thank you to everyone who came out to enjoy live music, food and fun at Lake Boren Park this summer.

Councilmembers Tour Risdon Middle School

There are two elementary schools within Newcastle city limits, and a middle school joins the list this fall.  Vera Risdon Middle School  opens right next to Hazelwood Elementary School. A few Newcastle City Councilmembers joined Renton School District officials on a tour of the new middle school on Aug. 9.
