July 2017
Welcome Stacy Payne Miller - Our New Chief Operating Officer

We are excited to introduce Stacy Payne Miller, our new Chief Operating Officer.  Stacy has extensive experience in the nonprofit sector and is formerly the COO at Reach For Youth. She graduated from Purdue University with her undergraduate degree, and earned her master's degree at Indiana Wesleyan University. Before entering the nonprofit field, Stacy had a successful career in retail management.

Please join us in welcoming Stacy to the House!

Suggestion Boxes

The best ideas and ways to improve policies and procedures come from those who are on the front lines. For this reason, we encourage you to provide feedback via the suggestion box located in the front office at Limestone and on the counter adjacent to the front desk at Riley. We review your comments and incorporate your suggestions whenever possible. Thank you in advance for taking the time to provide your thoughtful feedback so we may continue to operate in a manner that serves guests in a safe and secure environment but also supports and values the heart of our House: our volunteers!

Crime and Drug Screening Policy

We strive to provide a safe and secure environment for our guests, volunteers and staff. For this reason, we have instituted a crime and drug screening policy and procedure. When a family checks in at Limestone or for an overnight room at Riley, we will ask House guests to sign a statement declaring there will be no individuals staying in the room or visiting that have any criminal felony convictions or illegal drug use. If a family discloses that someone does not meet the criteria, please have them speak with the Manager on Duty.

This new policy will also be shared with families when they call to request a room.

Home Grown Veggies

If you find yourself with more than enough home grown vegtables in your garden, feel free to donate them to the House. Our families always enjoy salads and raw vegetables as a quick snack!

Food Allergies

Families who voice concerns about food allergies are encouraged to review food labels and to ask questions of meal group providers. While we attempt to keep foods separate, because we are a community living space, it is difficult to know if any cross contamination with allergens has occurred.

Help Wanted

Van Driver

We are in need of an additional van driver to pick up donations, once a month, using our van. Some lifting is involved. Drivers need to be at least 21 years of age and have a valid drivers license. Scheduling is flexible.

Guest Community Connections

Volunteers are needed to follow-up with families about 3-4 weeks after they have left the House on Limestone. This position will require approximately 20 minutes each month and involves calling 5-10 families to ask about their well-being and connection to local resources.

Chief Cheer Officer's Assistant

Mac, our Chief Cheer Officer, is looking for "assistants" to introduce him to houseguests and visitors during his office hours at Limestone, Monday - Friday from 4:30 - 5:30 p.m. As a puppy, Mac still receives training. His assistant will need to attend a one hour training session to help him follow commands and ensure the experience is positive for both the guests and Mac.

This is an ongoing position, so we need Mac's assistants to agree to a regular schedule, but not all 5 days each week. Assistants must have a history of dog ownership and previous experience attending obedience training is desired.

Please contact Mary Friend at [email protected] or at 317-267-0605, ext. 225 if you are interested in learning more about these opportunities.

Yoga Anyone?

We are now offering complimentary yoga classes on the first Monday of each month from 7- 8 p.m. House guests, volunteers and staff are welcome to join. The next class will be held on  August 7 so please join us! Thank you Kelly Alford from The Yoga Studio for your generous donation.

Mission Moment

"You have all been so great! We are overwhelmed by your hospitality, generosity, and support. This has been the perfect place for us to stay during this difficult but happy time for my Togolese friend and her baby. I never knew about Ronald McDonald House Charities very much before this but would definitely love to volunteer at the one where I am from in Orlando after our experience here. Thank you for all you are doing back in this community. You are a huge blessing!"

Look Who Was Caught Rolling Out The Red Carpet

Andrea Groves recently caught  Angie White, Guest Services Volunteer at Limestone, displaying friendliness and compassion.

Andrea wrote: "Angie always does a great job engaging the whole family when checking in a family.  Regardless if the family includes a grandparent or a child, Angie gets them involved in the check-in process and makes them feel at home."

Thank you, Angie. You are appreciated!
