New Yarns/Products
We continually have new products coming into the shop. We try to space out the arrival of new stock, because if something new comes in, then something else needs to leave the shop! Stop by anytime you are in town. These deep-discounted yarns are lovely and it just might be the right yarn to use to make a gift. (Yes, it is never too early to knit for others!)

The former Crosby High School in Belfast is inviting the public to celebrate its rebirth as it officially becomes the Crosby Center on Sunday, July 9, from 2-5 pm. Guests may enjoy tours of the building, a stage show of local talent, music, dance, theater, singing, a recording booth, delicious food, a bounce house and kids' activities.

This fundraiser event asks $10 per attendee. However, all former Crosby alumni are welcome to attend at no charge, with any donation gratefully accepted. Crosby alumni are also welcome to come forward with stories and memorabilia from their time at Crosby.

Kiril Lozanov of Belfast purchased the former Crosby School, which had been vacant for a decade, with a vision to revitalize the space as a multiuse building. Lozanov plans to include office space, plus creative spaces that are open to the public, cooperative rental housing and a restaurant.

The jewel of the Center is a functional theater for musical and theatrical performances, as well as events and conferences.

Tuesday, July 11, 6:30 pm: Book talk with Tom Wessels, author of Granite, Fire and Fog: The Natural and Cultural History of Acadia, the only book that offers both a natural and a cultural history of one of the nation's favorite parks, in which glacially scoured granite, winter winds, fire and ocean fog have converged to create a landscape that can be found nowhere else.

Tuesday July 25, 6:30 pm: Author talk with Barbara Kent Lawrence on

These talks, held at the Abbott Room at the Belfast Free Library, are free and open to all. For more information, phone the Library at 207-338-3884 ext. 10.
A Piece of the World_ Christina Baker Kline
A Piece of the World, by Christina Baker Kline
A Piece of the World
Christina Baker Kline, The New York Times bestselling author, will be at Left Bank Books in Belfast on Tuesday, July 11 at 7 pm to celebrate the recent release of A Piece of the World, an evocative novel that was inspired by Andrew Wyeth's iconic painting Christina's World.

As she did in her smash bestseller Orphan Train, Kline interweaves fact and fiction in A Piece of the World, in which she vividly imagines the woman behind the portrait -- a woman with a complicated relationship to her family and her past, and a special bond with one of America's greatest modern artists. The story is told from Christina's point of view.

Reservations are encouraged for this free event, as seating is limited. For more information, phone 207-338-9009 or email leftbank@myfairpoint.net. Left Bank Books is located at 109 Church St., Belfast.
