Daily Prayer
Starter

Please set aside time each day to pray for 2-3 minutes. This week's prayer starter is:

"Centering God, God who cares so much for me: help me remember that you should be the primary source from which my life emanates.  I thank you that you have given me a sound mind and other resources to know how to live in this world, and yet I can look directly to your Word in the Scriptures to learn about the God who created me out of love, and out of love was willing to die for me because of my sin. This week guide me to look to your Word as I ...

Sanctuary Renovation Campaign has Begun
Letter

As some of you may be aware, we are currently in the process of giving much of our facilities a bit of a face-lift.  We are hopeful that in the month of September, our sanctuary will have a new look.  Not only is it receiving a much-needed coat of paint, but an exciting new welcome center.  The lobby has been the traditional venue for greeting guests and members, but we are now bringing that into the sanctuary itself.  In order to achieve this, we are going to remove several of the rear pews, and create in place an area in which we can have coffee and conversation before and after services, a time to greet newcomers and make them feel at home and confirm the warmth of Christian love that Ghent Church has always conveyed to guests and to long time worshipers alike.  There will also be a space for young mothers to comfortably rock their infants or walk them around and still be able to participate in worship.  This will be a unique setting, an unparalleled one, not matched by any other church to my knowledge.

The district believes in our dreams and has allocated $25,000 in matching funds for us to make them come true.  It is up to us to raise the additional $60,000 necessary for renovations and repairs .   I feel confident that given the reward for our effort, we can do it.  Joyfully we can support it with our gifts.  We welcome gifts of $150, $500, $1,000, $5,000, or whatever amount you are able to give.   You may give one time or spread your gift over the course of 12 months.  Please call 757-622-2843 or email the church office to indicate how you are able to help.

We are embarking on a new phase in the life of our church, one that we hope will be popular with our present membership, but one that will be a magnet to a new generation.  As one of the oldest members of our congregation, awash in memories of early years, I greet the changes in store with excitement and confidence.  So I encourage you to join me in our fundraising effort to put a new face on our sanctuary and also to embrace the future.

Your brother in Christ,
