Rabbi's D'var Torah for Shabbat, June 30, 2017 Prayer Space at the Western Wall
"This week, a lot has been happening in Israel. These developments and the various reactions to them are important to us as Jews and especially as liberal Jews who love Israel. I would like to spend the next several minutes talking about these recent events because I hope that this will be a topic that we spend time discussing with our friends and families, and I want us to have a solid amount of information for those conversations."

Message From Rabbi Bearman: Ballard Park Graffiti
June 30, 2017: "Dear TBC Family,
I wanted to let you know that this past Thursday
, I sat down with my colleague, Rabbi David Reiner, of Congregation Shir Shalom and Ridgefield's First Selectman, Rudy Marconi, to discuss the recent anti-semitic and racist graffiti that was found in Ballard Park earlier this month. Mr. Marconi emphasized how much this graffiti and the hateful sentiments behind it are not part of what he wants the Ridgefield community to be. At this point, the police are not able to share many details about their investigation, but they are working to identify the individual(s) responsible.
"Rabbi Reiner, Mr. Marconi, and I also spoke about the possible ways that we could bring a conversation about kindness and civility to the larger community. Over the next couple of months, we plan to meet multiple times to continue that important work.
I am glad to know that the town and Mr. Marconi are taking this so seriously, and I will continue to update you with any new information that I receive."
B'vracha (with blessing), Rabbi Bearman

It is traditional to light a memorial candle on the eve of the yahrzeit at home and to recite Kaddish when lighting the yahrzeit candle. It is also a custom to make donations in memory of loved ones around the time of yahrzeit.
