Aloha!
June went out with a bang at the MACC: a "triple-play" week where we saw more than 12,000 people come through our gates into the A&B Amhitheater as well as the Yokouchi Pavilion and Courtyard. Three completely different audiences, in three completely different set-ups for three completely different events:
The MACC’s annual Ki Ho’alu (Slack Key) Festival on Sunday, Oprah Winfrey's "healthy living" chat on Monday, and the popular Gallery event ArT=Mixx on Friday. Morning, noon and night events ... and they were all free, free, free!
For the quick turnaround on-the-ground, I send out special kudos to the amazing facilities staff and technical crews, and volunteers @the MACC, who worked over-night and day-after-day to make it all happen. Hosting events in the flexible spaces of the MACC is not just like opening the doors at an arena and letting people in: our facility has been built so flexibly that we can do many things in many ways - but it does take a lot of good, behind-the-scenes work to allow such a wide diversity of large scale events to occur in basically the same space within a short span of time.
The "all hands on deck" attitude of the staff and volunteer ushers, along with their ability for rapid and professional deployment of resources - allows the MACC, as a presenting institution, to meet the needs of our audience, community and venue renters. As I've said before about the other 1550 events in the past year: it takes a lot of dedicated work and staff to make it look easy! There are times when I pause, muse, and hope that Pundy would be proud of the diversity, volume, and can-do approach of the 2017 version of his MACC.
MAHALO to the great staff, volunteers, board of directors and donors that make it all possible for the community. And mahalo to everyone who helps...@ the MACC.
