Message from the Director
I know that summer schedules can get pretty hectic, so I wanted to say thanks for taking the time to check in with the Conservancy! We have some exciting events and programs on the horizon, and we'd love to see you at them.
First on the docket is the European Water Chestnut Removal Project. The water chestnut is an exotic invasive species that has taken over the lakes, ponds and creeks of the Perkiomen Watershed. I am proud to say that after a dozen years of battling this foe, we finally have it on the run! However, we still need your help to eradicate a few more infestation sites. Please join us in this battle by signing up for one of our July volunteer dates.
Our second event of the summer is the annual Perk to Pub Bicycle Adventure on the Perkiomen Trail. The P2P takes place on August 26, 2017 from 8 am to 1 pm. The ride starts at Green Lane Park, follows the Perkiomen Trail for 13 miles, and finishes with a pub party at the Appalachian Brewing Company in Collegeville. Also, at the end of this event, we'll pull the winner of the Trifecta kayak raffle! Space is limited... sign up today!
Last, this fall we are offering a few pilot sessions of our newest program... Perkiomen Nature Play. Perkiomen Nature Play is an after-school program designed to get your youngsters outside! These guided sessions offer a variety of hands-on free-play opportunities for children to experience the natural environment. We believe that it's of utmost importance for our children to form a personal connection with nature, and that there's no better way to do this than with the Conservancy's environmental education team.
Thanks and see you OUTSIDE!!

Recognize a local
Environmental Steward!
We are aware that there are many people, organizations and businesses in the watershed community that are
working hard to help conserve and protect our natural resources.
You can help recognize these environmental stewards by
nominating them for one of the Conservancy's environmental awards!
We hope you will then join us when we recognize these award recipients at the Conservancy's
on October 12!

On June 26, 2017 through June 30, 2017, members of the Perkiomen
Watershed Conservancy's youth conservation program embarked on a five-day canoeing expedition. Sixteen students and leaders from Montgomery County, PA
launched into the Perkiomen Creek at the Conservancy's headquarters near Schwenksville, PA and traveled a total of five days:
first down the Perkiomen Creek to Oaks,
then
out the Schuylkill River through the heart of Philadelphia, and last down a portion of the Delaware River. The goal of the expedition was to raise awareness for the Perkiomen Creek as a new potential addition to Pennsylvania's State Water Trail System. The group carried all of their own food and equipment and camped their way down the 60-mile route - in effect modeling a wilderness-style expedition through the heart of urban Philadelphia.
Stay tuned for the release of the expedition's documentary film this fall!
Thank you to our Perki-Bay Expedition Sponsors!
