Welcome Back!
Dear Lyon Family,
Welcome to the 2017-2018 school year.  With such busy schedules, our goal is to give you all the information you need to start the school year off right!

Ms. Gove, Lyon's new assistant principal, and I are ready for an all-star year. Staff are gearing up for August 10th by attending trainings, participating in professional development, and updating their classrooms.  We are especially looking forward to the roll out of Lyon's Leader In Me, a leadership process that will be centered on Dr. Stephen Covey's 7 Habits of Happy Kids!

As the year continues, please be on the lookout for parent information as we begin to instill these habits in all of Lyon's students.  Lyon staff will continue to learn and grow through the use of these habits in our own lives.
We know this year is going to be great.  We can't wait to get started.

See you soon!
Casey Mitchell
Lyon Building Principal

Important Beginning of the Year Documents

You will need to return the following 3 items found below before Friday, August 18th:

1. Procedure and Policy Acknowledgement Page

Completion of this form indicates acceptance and understanding of the procedures and policies in the student handbook.  The forms must be signed by parents and students. If your child is too young to sign, please place student initials in the "student signature" area. The handbook can be found in the "Resources" section and "Quick Links" area of the building website.

2. Student Health Inventory Form

This important form provides us with information regarding your child's health and how we can support him or her at Lyon. Don't forget that all vaccinations must be up to date and on file with the school nurse.  Email Nurse Lisa with any questions.

3. Free and Reduced Lunch Application
This allows us to secure all possible resources for our school. We ask all families complete this form even if there is no plan to use the benefit.

Beginning in 2011-12 the federal USDA Paid Lunch Price Equity regulation requires all school districts participating in the National School Lunch Program (NSLP) to yearly adjust paid lunch prices until paid prices equal or exceed the free rate. Therefore, lunch prices are required to increase by $0.10 this year.

You can return all forms at Open House, during office hours, or send them with your child on the first day of school. Forms will be available at Open House for families, as well. Kindergarten families have already completed the Procedure and Policy Acknowledgement Page and Student Health Inventory forms and will not need to return them to school.
FYIs on School Bus, Drop-off and Pick-up Procedures

1. All drop-offs must be dropped in the back of the building beginning at 8:10am. Please refer to the Traffic Flow Map  or visit Lyon's website under "Resources" for drop-off and pick-up procedures.  Please do not drop children off at the building prior to 8:10 a.m. Students are not permitted to wait outside or in the entry of the building prior to the start of school. Staff members will be present outside at 8:10 a.m. to assist and supervise. Students may only be dropped off from the main car line. If you are running late, parents are always welcome to park in Lyon's front parking lot and walk students to Lyon's front doors.

2. Students may be picked up at the end of the day from the main car line or the parent pick-up line located by our playground gate. Please plan ahead as no pick-up changes can be made after 3:00 p.m. and no child may be picked up in the office after 3:15p.m. If you utilize the main car line for pick-up, please place the car tag you receive at Open House on the dash or rearview mirror of your vehicle each day.  Do not get out of your vehicle, as this slows down the process and causes unnecessary congestion.  In order to decrease congestion, please do not line up prior to 3:15 p.m. Monday-Thursday and prior to 2:15 p.m. on Fridays. We will dismiss students at 3:30 p.m. Monday-Thursday and at 2:30 p.m. on Friday. It is our goal to get students with families within 13-15 minutes. If you choose to use the walk-up pick-up line in the back of the building, please line up by playground gate with car tag so a staff member may release your child to you.

3. Riding a bus? A letter from the Transportation Department will be sent to families via email and mailed the first week in August identifying bus number along with pick-up and drop-off times. Questions regarding transportation can be directed to 732-3680.

As a reminder, the Republic School District implements a weekly Friday early release. To learn more about early release and find answers to frequently asked questions, visit the district website at  republicschools.org
Tiger STRIPES will be available on the early release day at no extra cost to families already enrolled. For families who only need care on the early release day, Tiger STRIPES will be available at no cost for one hour of care (2:30 - 3:30 p.m.) and/or a cost of $3.50 per weekly release day for students needing care until 4:30 p.m. To attend Tiger STRIPES, families will need to sign up in advance. Not receiving text messages from Lyon or the district?
  • In order to receive texts sent to numbers submitted to the district, parents/guardians must opt-in. To do so, simply text "Y" to code 67587 at any time. If you are unable to use this code please first contact the building in which your child attends to make sure the correct phone number is on file. If we have your number on file correctly, but you are still unable to receive messages it is most likely a wireless carrier issue. Please contact your wireless provider and ask them to enable SMS messaging on your device.

The Republic School District offers quality and affordable student programming during non-school hours through STRIPES 360. Care is offered before and after school daily and during days that school is not in session. The Tiger STRIPES/TEENS program will be using online enrollment only for registration.
