Summer art show opens this Thursday

Join three local mixed media artists at their opening reception between 5:30 and 7:30 p.m. this Thursday at our Gallery . Work hangs through the end of September, and as always, a portion of sales supports our many extra services and programs.

Liza Crowley Judson earned a degree in studio art and photography from University of California, Santa Cruz. After working and living in China, Japan and California, Liza moved to Savannah and finds new inspiration for photography in the Southern landscape. She has recently begun mounting images onto found objects.  Christina Edwards earned a BFA in Painting from Atlanta College of Art and splits her studio time between Savannah and Miami. Her encaustic works are multi-layered fields of color painted with molten wax. She uses illustrations, old ads and collages in her work and has been inspired by vintage circus imagery for this Hospice Savannah show. Doris Grieder, a native of Switzerland, has long had a passion for collecting threads and fibers, embellishing them with beads and other found objects. Her current body of work has not been exhibited before and incorporates natural objects and thrift store treasures.
A happy ending for Copper

Last month we shared the story of Pet Peace of Mind volunteer Jackie Tatum fostering our patient's dog Copper until he could find a "forever" home. Here is the sweet Facebook post we received from his new mom, pictured above, "Biscuit and I LOVE having Copper as our new friend and family member. He is so smart and so full of energy. Thank you Hospice Savannah's Pet Peace of Mind for bringing us together!"
Providing the best  hospice care

Never doubt that Hospice Savannah provides the best care. With so many other hospices here (15? 16?) our recent State re-certification survey resulted in no deficiencies in any areas. CEO  Debra Anthony Larson says ,"This is a huge accomplishment and I wish to thank everyone for this success. Thank you everyone for all that you do to make a difference everyday. Great job team!"  As you may know, in addition to being State certified we are the only hospice to have been awarded the Gold Seal of ApprovalĀ®  from the Joint Commission.

Pooler's Mayor Lamb opens Thrift Shoppe

Thanks to everyone who joined us for the official ribbon cutting of our Pooler Thrift Shoppe early last month. Pooler Chamber members, our CEO and Foundation board members were touched to hear that Mayor Lamb had personally used our services to help care for his wife several years ago.

Our upscale store, located in Fortune Plaza, 331 US Highway 80 East, accepts donations on-site and arrangements can be made for drop off at Hospice House or pick up at the Landings. Full information on shoppe hours, donation guidelines, or volunteering can be found at this web page , and be sure to check our Hospice Savannah Facebook page for weekly sales and highlighted items! Bunny Ware's fun pictures from the Grand Opening can be found at this link!
Party updates and a great summer recipe!

As Spotted photographer Judi Duffy wrote, "Was it a fun Saturday night at bar.food with music, great food and lots of cocktails? Or was it a fundraiser for Hospice Savannah with the Midtown Pickers, a silent auction and raffles? It was both! Can't wait for the next one!" Thanks to volunteer Faye Allen, our volunteers and generous musicians, donors and attendees for helping us raise $9,228. See Judi's  pictures at this link.

We also thank volunteer Penny Farley  for arranging a Summer Nights fundraising and friend-raising luncheon at her home and are indebted to the very talented Chef Damon Lee Fowler for
teaching, prepping and cooking for her guests. Scroll through Chef Fowler's Facebook page to his June 22 post and find the recipe for the raw tomato and herb spaghetti dish served at Penny's party. If YOU would like to plan a Summer Nights get together, simply call Ophelia at 912.629.1027.
Planning for the best possible outcomes

We know that utilizing a reputable hospice improves outcomes for patients and their families at end-of-life. Consider sharing this little article confirming just this with a skeptical family member or friend reluctant to call for help! Remember, it always seems too early, until it's too late.

Our compassionate Admissions  Department staff will guide you in the right direction by referring you to palliative care, to family  caregiver support   or to other community resources if the time is not right for hospice care. Simply call 912.355.2289 or find out more at the "Frequently Asked Questions" page on our website. We are so much more than hospice.
