Star of David, Before Restoration

Earlier this year TBH regained possession of the historic stained glass Star of David that adorned our original 1938 building, after the new owners needed to remove it. It was in poor condition with weathered wood and broken glass, and after a matching donation and on-line fundraising campaign, we were able to completely restore the window. The newly restored Star will be installed in the foyer of our current building and dedicated in memory of Ben Bean. All are invited to a short rededication ceremony, followed by light refreshments.

Thurston Gun Sense
Tuesday, September 19
6:30 p.m.

Since helping promote Initiative 1491, our work has been focused on safety involving firearms and building community. Data from 2015 showed that Thurston County has a higher suicide rate involving firearms (84 percent) than the statewide figure of 80 percent. We can change those figures by making homes safe, training on suicide prevention and building community.   Here are some highlights of our efforts:
  • Partnered with other agencies to distribute free gun locks at various locations including Cabela's
  • Lobbied and met with legislators to promote passage of responsible laws involving firearms
  • Screened the film Under the Gun and brought guest speakers to our community
  • Promoted Mental Health First Aid USA with a focus on youth
Watch for us at Lakefair in the parking lot of The Unity Church of Olympia and also at Fall Arts Walk in front of De Colores Bookstore. Free cable locks for guns will be distributed at both events.

Our next general meeting is September 19, 6:30 to 8 pm at The Unity Church of Olympia. All are welcome. For additional information or to get involved contact Laura Hurtado-Webb laurahw@earthlink.net.
