S'more Decorating!

Hello, fellow Christmas lovers!

This is S'more the Elf, and I have decorating FEVER!

My training continues as the newest employee of The Christmas Shoppe. Lucky for me, I have centuries of Christmas knowledge stored up from my life at The North Pole. Today, we are starting to DECORATE!

Every year at the North Pole, on December 26th, Santa congratulates us on another successful Christmas. Then, we begin getting ready for NEXT CHRISTMAS! Can you feel our enthusiasm!?! At The Christmas Shoppe, it is much the same, but the decorating cannot begin until we have enough new goodies to make the magic happen. Our new items start arriving as early as March, but the bulk of the ribbons, tinsel, and GLITTER (my favorite!) do not arrive until the summer. Well, now that enough has arrived, we are starting the decorating, and we want to share the experience with you!

Today, I am helping to "fluff" the florals. You are thinking, "what the what?" Fake floral items like poinsettias, holly, berry sprays, and pine sprays are an easy way to make any Christmas tree look more full, more realistic, more snowy, or more sparkly and certainly MORE SPECTACULAR! But they don't always look so great at first. The holly picks I am working on the picture are an excellent example of what I mean. The one that I'm sitting on top of needs "fluffing". It is sad and flat and some leaves are bent weird. Most florals come out of their boxes looking this way, even just after storage. They need some lovin'.

Here is how it's done according to Mrs. C.:
  1. Clear yourself a nice table to work on. The pictures you see below have our wreath hung on a wall, but just to improve the view. It's easier to have the wreath laying flat on a table.
    Flat, sad wreath... :(.
  2. Pick a spot, any spot, to begin. Grab hold of any piece of pine sticking out from the metal ring and pull the tip out to a rough 45 degree angle. Basically, we are in super-elfy-scientific terms "unmooshing" the branches.
  3. Now, grab each piece of floral adjacent to your original piece, one at a time, and "fluff". Try bending a piece in the middle to give it a curve. Or, push your fingers underneath a piece where it meets the metal ring to cause the whole piece to stand away from the base. Push your fingers between each piece to create space between them, giving a fuller look. Pull pieces of one type of greenery in between other types to keep the wreath from looking too uniform.

    Push _em around_

  4. Move in a clockwise direction, touching every piece of floral and adjusting as you go, pulling pieces into the space created from moving other pieces.

Pull some pine up to break it up
    Much better_

  5. If your wreath looks like it has no hole in the center, push the branches away from the center and away from the wall or table. Aim for a donut shape.

Much, Much Better!
  • Your final product ends up looking bigger and much more like freshly cut pine boughs.
  • Think it needs more? We would love to help you design the perfect wreath or swag for your front door by adding ornaments, florals, or a handmade bow or ribbon of your choice.
  • Please, ask anytime for a demonstration!
Yup, Mrs. C. knows her stuff when it comes to decorating. She can explain it much better than I can. While all of those steps were dealing with wreaths, the same basic idea works for any florals (sprays, picks, swags, centerpieces, garlands, and even trees!). Just bend wires around until you like the way the item looks.

The best part is, any decorating with glittery items will decorate YOU! You will end up covered in glitter, and everyone will know just how magical YOU are!
