David Boone, Harvard University
Homeless to Harvard: that’s David Boone’s story. When David refused to join the gangs in his Cleveland neighborhood, they shot at his house, leaving David and his family homeless. David Boone got by, staying with friends and even sleeping on park benches. But he needed help.
That help came in two forms: David’s high school principal, who helped him become a leader with a positive impact on other students, and the UNCF Gates Millennium Scholars Program, which is helping David and many others like him become the first in their families to go to college.
If you are a current student or alumni and received support from the UNCF we want to share your story please email: tiamarshae.sanford@uncf.org
