Party With Your Neighbors!
Suffering from a bad case of FOMO? No need!  Everyone will be at the Huning Highland annual party this Sunday, August 13th, from 6:00-8:00 PM and at the EDo annual party on Thursday, September 14th, also from 6:00-8:00 PM. The Huning Highlanders will gather at Preservation Station on the corner of Walter and Coal. The acoustic trio Pawn Drive provides the music, BYOB and a dish to share is encouraged, and guests are welcome.
The East Downtowners will meet in the courtyard of The Lofts at Albuquerque High, northwest corner of Central and Arno. Food and beverage provided, and our guests are always entertaining. We look forward to seeing you there!
City Election October 3rd
Municipal election day is Tuesday, October 3rd. Among other matters, we will elect a new Mayor and some City Council members (but not District 2 in which EDo is located). Early voting will be held from September 13-29. Absentee voting information may be obtained here.  Polling locations for October 3rd may be found here.
Please exercise your civic rights and responsibilities by voting;  if you don't vote, please don't complain!
Construction Updates
The Lobo Rainforest Building at Innovate ABQ, 101 Broadway NE, celebrates its completion and opening with a ribbon cutting and building tours on Friday, August 25th at 9:00 AM. Please mark your calendars and plan to attend.
We are advised by ABQ Ride that Albuquerque Rapid Transit construction in EDo will be complete by the end of August.  Construction of the entire ART system will be complete by the end of November. The 18 new ART buses are arriving, and testing will begin soon.
Dysfunctional Federalism
"Cities drive the economy, but we're putting potholes in their way."  Fast Company discusses how aggressive cuts in the proposed federal budget, combined with state governments consistently overruling local policy decisions, has limited the power of our urban centers to innovate. Cycling Success
Curbed discusses   how 10 U.S. cities are pushing cycling forward with new infrastructure, better bikesharing, and safer streets. Albuquerque is not one of those cities. But it could be, and it should be!  Let's hope our next Mayor "gets it."
