TORAH PORTION

Eikev [And if You] Obey [These Rules]
Deuteronomy 7:12-11:25
And if you do obey these rules and observe them carefully, the Eternal your God will maintain faithfully for you the covenant made on oath with your fathers. - Deuteronomy 7:12
SUMMARY:
  • Moses tells the Israelites that if they follow God's laws, the nations who now dwell across the Jordan River will not harm them. (7:12-26)
  • Moses reminds the people of the virtues of keeping God's commandments. He also tells them that they will dispossess those who now live in the Land only because they are idolatrous, not because the Israelites are uncommonly virtuous. Thereupon, Moses reviews all of the trespasses of the Israelites against God. (8:1-10:11)
  • Moses says that the Land of Israel will overflow with milk and honey if the people obey God's commandments and teach them to their children. (10:12-11:25)

BACK TO SCHOOL WEEK AT CNT!!!!
Last Sunday we had a very successful first day of religious school. There was a welcome tent out front run by the Membership Committee - thank you Bob Abrams, Matt Berenson, Stephanie Milford, Kim Blass and Melissa Adelman.

Inside there were new teachers and staff engaging the students and parents with updated and exciting programs. This included an interactive in-the-round prayer service with music and video.
Great job - Bob Huebsch, Elaine Gutenstein, Rebecca Sussman
and the entire CNT teaching staff, you make us shine!

Confirmation classes began with an overview class and will continue next week with the Rabbi at next Sunday's CNT community picnic at Oregon Park.  The class will be open,
so feel free to learn about our new confirmation program.

Friday night we will be continuing our Back to School Week
with a special service. Each school family received an invitation to attend and be part of an interactive family themed service.

Look forward to seeing you Friday!

INTO FOCUS
Two discussions led by Rabbi Prass

Sunday, August 27, 10:30 am - noon
Sunday, September 17, 10:30 am - noon

Enrich your mind and soul as we delve into some of the central
themes and texts of the High Holy Days. The Rosh Hashanah session on August  27 will look at the history of the holiday from its origins in the Bible to its celebration marking the birthday of the world.

At Yom Kippur, tradition says we should engage in reflection,
soul searching and redirection. The Yom Kippur session on
September 17 will examine some of the central texts of Yom Kippur
to prepare us to focus on a new and better year.
