Our Vision Statement
Old North Church is an inclusive Christian Community called to bring to life God's love and grace by sharing the gospel for this time and place; extending the hospitality Christ showed; embodying God's love and compassion to those in need; and growing together in our understanding and experience of the Holy Spirit at work in our midst.

Fridays at Crocker Park

Join us on August 18th!

Join us this Friday August 18th at Crocker Park for bring-your-own picnics, games and good fun. Bring your blanket, shades, and let's enjoy the view together. We will start to gather around 5:45-ish. We will meet again on September 15th.
Marblehead RIM - August Update

Throughout the summer, the RIM Marblehead Cluster (Old North Church, St Andrews and Temple Emanu-el) volunteers continue to help Danie and Annie assimilate here, assist Danie to become self-sufficient and working through the legal process of seeking asylum and to reunite with the rest of her family who are still in Haiti.

RIM Marblehead Cluster: Clifton Lutheran Church is considering joining as a partner in the RIM Marblehead Cluster. The Marblehead Steering Committee has met with their Social Action Committee and recently with their Church Council. The Council voted unanimously to join with us and the proposal now goes to a church wide membership vote in this September or October.
  • CNA training: Danie is enrolled in a 6 week CNA training in Amesbury. The program includes training, test preparation and placement services upon graduation.
  • Legal Status: Danie's pro bono legal team is working hard to get her an expedited Asylum hearing and seeking a humanitarian parole for Dani's older daughter to come to the USA.
  • English: Linda Duvel and other volunteers' instruction are focusing on using the CNA course textbook for continuing English instruction for Danie.
  • Work: Danie has been interviewing for part-time jobs, while taking her CNA class.
  • Child Care: Annie is in JCC Child Care July and August; funded by a JCC scholarship. The JCC nursery director reports how well Annie is doing and how much her English speaking has improved. Annie will be starting at Salem's Head Start Program in September.
Unmet Needs:
Our biggest challenges are fund raising, recruiting new volunteers and finding short term low cost housing.
  • Fund Raising: The monthly budget to support Danie and Annie is $1700 a month. The participating congregations continue with their financial support. Contributions (big or small) are always appreciated. Donations can be sent to the ONC church office with RIM Marblehead in the check memo line. We have also launched a Go Fund Me Appeal to augment this effort. If you wish to avail yourself of this easy manner to support this effort go to   https://www.gofundme.com/welcome-the-stranger.   When Dani gets a part-time paying job, she will be able to start contributing to the monthly expenses.
  • Volunteers: The hard working volunteers have been putting in dedicated service since last October. Additional volunteers are needed for child care and transportation.
  • Housing: The lease on their apartment in Salem has been renewed through the end of March 2018. Applications have been submitted for less expensive public housing in Salem, Beverly and Middleton. Marblehead is not accepting applications at this time. What is needed is "Bridge" housing until publically subsidized housing becomes available; e.g. winter house sitting or in-law apartment possibilities.
The RIM Marblehead Cluster Steering Committee thanks you for any part you have or may play in the success of this important program. For additional information contact Richard Thibedeau at 781-307-5538 or [email protected]

Winter Wonderland Fair, Nov. 17-18

This year's Winter Wonderland church fair will be held on the weekend of November 17-18. The Preview Party will be on November 17 at 7pm. The fair will be on Saturday, November 18 from 9am-3pm. The committee is looking for someone to be in charge of publicity, with assistance from Linda Duvel. If you are an artist and would like to donate a painting to be auctioned, please let us know. We are also in need of jewelry for the jewelry table, items for the silent auction, and Christmas items. Please hold onto your items for now; we will let you know when we are able to store them at the church. Linda Hare is in charge of the Christmas items. She can be reached at 781-639-0107. Help and ideas are always needed! Please contact this year's chair, Debby Stockdale for more information. Debby can be reached at 781-883-5115 or [email protected].

Volunteer Opportunity
with Family Promise in Marblehead
Family Promise North Shore  is an interfaith hospitality network that provides shelter, meals, job support and case management for homeless families, and the UU Congregation of Marblehead is hosting families the week of August 27th. If you are interested in learning more about Family Promise, or volunteer to learn more about the program. It's a remarkable program. Some of the volunteer roles require a brief training, but there are lots of opportunities to donate meals, set-up, etc. If you have any questions, you can contact Nikki Moore at the UU church at: [email protected]. If you want to volunteer, here is the link!

Glimpses of Grace

This week's Glimpse of Grace was shared by Judy Conner. She was in Colorado recently and was inspired by the space, mountains and sky.
Please share your Glimpses of Grace
A great gift of summertime is the chance to break our routines and for time to relax and recharge our spiritual batteries. Whether we get away or enjoy a "stay-cation" at home, hopefully we get a chance to breathe deeply, enjoy life at a slower pace, and notice things we don't usually notice. We get glimpses of grace we're often too busy to see.

This summer let's share some of those glimpses of grace. While you enjoy the season's beauty, take a picture of an inspiring place or a person or thing, along with a sentence or two that tells how it touched you. Email it to the church office ([email protected]) with "Glimpses of Grace" in the subject line. We'll share as many as we can in this space each each week.
We Need Contact Info Updates!

We will be working on updating the ONC Membership Directory this Summer to have available in the Fall.  If you have had any recent changes in e-mail or home addresses, phone numbers, or family information, please notify the church office ([email protected]) as soon as possible to assure that we have accurate information to distribute.

Career Transitions Meets on Thursdays at Noon
During the summer the Career Transition Group meets weekly on Thursdays from 12 to 1 pm in the Beals Room at the 8 Stacey Street office.  Anyone in job transition (whether re-entering the workforce, seeking employment after a layoff or just looking for a different job) is welcome to attend.  Participants will share job search strategies, network, work on resumes, enjoy spiritual support and more.  Bring your lunch and drop in every week or whenever you can.  There is no cost to participate.  We look forward to serving those who need support while looking for work.  For more information email Michael Perez, [email protected].

Summer 2017 Lighthouse Services

Throughout the summer and ending the Sunday of Labor Day weekend, the  8am worship service will be held at the    Marblehead Lighthouse, at Chandler Hovey Park. In the event of rain, the service will be held in the Sanctuary.  The 10am service will continue to be held in the Sanctuary.
