One Potato, Two Potato
Monica Massei's class at Kennedy Elementary took action when County Extension Agent, Alicia Holloway suggested to plant sweet potatoes before school was out in May. In doing this, the garden would not have to be tended over the summer and the potatoes would be ready for harvest when school started back. It was a BOLD success!
The battle of the sweet potatoes, "Georgia Grown vs. Kennedy Grown" will take place with a taste test in the lunchroom later this month. Ms. Massei shared that sweet potatoes are totally the way to go for summer gardens and weed control!

WBCT Sponsors Barrow Food 2 Kids
Making the first 2017-2018 donation to Barrow Food 2 Kids for this school year was the Winder Barrow Community Theatre (WBCT). Proceeds came from the recent play, "The Wizard of Oz." Approximately 40 children, teens and adults were involved in this production. WBCT is a long-time supporter of Barrow Food 2 Kids, and their donation of $868.53 will sponsor 3 of the 215 students BCSS will begin serving this school year.

On Monday August 21st, a total solar eclipse will occur with Barrow County in a special location very close to the path of totality. The Barrow County School System will be delaying school release by 30 minutes that day for both the safety of our students and the educational opportunity associated with this event. Glasses will be provided for our students and staff.
