Ever wonder who was behind CARU Pet Food? Well, CARU is a family owned and operated company. Adrian & Pamela Pettyan started the company because of their beloved pup, Karu. It all began when Adrian and Pettyan, both medical professionals (Adrian was a chiropractor and Pamela was an occupational therapist) who owned and operated a medical clinic in their local community. Their clinic had medical doctors, counselors, chiropractors, a nurse practitioner, massage therapists and occupational therapists. They were busy working long hours at the clinic but wanted a dog, so they decided to get a pup that they could have at the clinic with them as a therapy dog to help their patients. And this is how Karu entered the picture.  

 

Karu worked at the clinic as a puppy (mainly in the office with his Auntie Joanne while Pamela and Adrian were working with patients) but he soon developed awful allergies, mostly ear infections. After a few years of trying a variety of medications and various diets with Karu, their vet advised them to start home feeding him. Almost immediately, Karu's symptoms cleared up and so they continued to home feed him. Pamela (who likes to cook) would bring some of his homemade food and cookies into the clinic for others to try with their dogs and everyone loved them. And she even began selling some of her homemade cookies and food at local pet stores. Around this time, Adrian & Pamela discovered Tetra Pak ® cartons and thought it would be ideal for their dog food. After working with Tetra Pak ® and doing many tests, they were able to produce a product much like what they had been cooking at home for Karu all these years (the 'classic' chicken stew is the closest recipe to what they had been feeding Karu at home). And so, Adrian & Pamela gave up their medical practices after many years to focus on their new venture, CARU Pet Food, which officially launched in 2014.  

 

Since then, Adrian & Pamela with the help of Pamela's sister, Elizabeth, and her husband, Scott (pictured above) have been busy introducing CARU to the pet industry and pet parents alike. This year, CARU has been pleased to add 8 new products to our product line up:
