KOP-BID Plans For Future Physical Improvements for KOP
New Landscape Improvement Projects Outlined

Whether it's beautiful plants blooming in medians along KOP's major corridors or colorful lights illuminating KOP's six gateway signs, KOP-BID has created charming landscapes for commuters, residents and visitors alike to enjoy. Over the past six years, KOP-BID's Physical Improvement Committee has developed these landscape initiatives to transform under maintained spaces into attractive points of interest throughout KOP.

With the completion of THE PARK's demonstration project in May and the next phase of the 2.4 mile First Avenue linear park moving forward in 2018, the Committee is ready to outline the next wave of enhancements for KOP.

Under the guidance of the planning firm Glackin Thomas Panzack (GTP), the Committee toured KOP-BID's past improvement projects, along with additional right-of-way locations to assess future areas of interest for improvement. The next step in the planning process is for GTP to present an action plan of improvement projects for KOP-BID to undertake for the next five to 10 years. The Committee expects to unveil the prioritized list to KOP-BID's Board of Directors for consideration in September 2017.

Landscaped Medians in Full Bloom
KOP-BID's Landscaped Medians at Their Peak Throughout KOP's Major Corridors

22,000 SF of landscaped median, completed in 2016 on I-76
at KOP exit.
Since 2011, KOP-BID has raised approximately $1M to implement landscape improvements throughout KOP's major corridors to enhance the roadway medians and gateways. KOP-BID has landscaped roadway medians along DeKalb Pike and First Avenue, landscaped portions of Henderson Road and installed landscaping at the I-76 off ramp. The former concrete medians are now full of life year-round with lush perennials, shrubs, grasses, and bulbs.

KOP-BID continues to plant and maintain the medians each year, spending $60,000-$70,000 annually on maintenance alone to ensure their proper upkeep.
