Matt Gaventa preaching

Sermon text: Numbers 27:1-11

Come sing with Summer Choir!

Summer Choir Singers are any singers who wish to sing in the choir on any chosen Summer Sunday morning. They are welcome to come to the Chancel promptly at 10:00 a.m. and rehearse that morning’s anthem. Summer singers wear no robes, sing the Anthem, then join family and/or friends in the congregation for the remainder of the service.  All singers are welcome! This Sunday, the choir sings "Sometimes I Feel Like a Motherless Child," arranged by Fenno Heath.

T he Wonder People made a surprise visit to Pastor Matt's office during VBS last week. Here at Hero Central, we are so thankful to all of our kids, parents, church staff, and especially our VBS volunteers for making this an amazing week of fun, faith, and friendships. We hope you all continue to live into our Hero Verse and Words and have a great rest of your summer. We look forward to seeing you all back on August 20th on Rally Sunday!

Our  Hero Verse for the week:
"Do good. Seek peace and go after it!"
Psalm 34:14b

2017 marks the tenth year for our summer dinner and movie discussion at UPC! Over the years we’ve discussed more than 40 movies – some classics, like The Third Man and On the Waterfront, some exploring social issues, like Selma and The Visitor – always illuminating themes of life and faith, and serving as visual parables that help viewers see how God’s messages of hope and love are revealed through contemporary films.

Short clips from the movies are used to facilitate discussion, as time and copyright issues prevent viewing the entire movie. All of the movies selected will be available on DVD and streaming services, and you are encouraged to view the movie before the discussion date.

Please be aware that not all of the movies are suitable for children. A movie activity for children will be offered upstairs. We ask that families sign up for the children’s activity when signing up for dinner, so that we will know how many to plan for.

The movies for S&S 2017 are –

  • Arrival
  • Fences
  • Hell or HighWater
  • Moana

– all award-winning/award nominated movies of 2016!!

Supper will be provided by different groups from UPC, with the proceeds from the dinner going toward special projects chosen by the groups. Cost for the dinner is $7.00 for adults, and $3.00 for children ages 3-12.

You must sign up and pay for dinner in advance! This is important, as those preparing the meal must know how many to prepare for! Look for the sign-up table in the courtyard after church beginning this Sunday, July 9. And of course you are welcome to come for the discussion if you do not wish to join us for dinner!

When?

Monday evenings, July 17, 24, 31, Aug. 7
6:00 pm – dinner; 6:30 pm – discussion

Where?

Fellowship Hall, UPC

How?
Sign up & pay for your meals in the courtyard after church starting this Sunday! Cash, checks & credit cards accepted!

Come Celebrate with John Knox Ranch!
Please join the John Knox Ranch staff for an evening of food, singing, and fun as we celebrate the completion of the JKR Dining Hall!

Saturday, July 15, 5:00 p.m. to 8:00 p.m.

On Memorial Day weekend in 2015, the Dining Hall was destroyed by a massive flood (as were other areas of JKR). After two years of serving campers and guests from a makeshift disaster relief kitchen, and after receiving generous gifts toward this recovery and recovery project,  we have rebuilt the Dining Hall! This new facility will enable us to serve both summer campers and retreat guests.
