Dear Friend of the BABC,
The vacation months of summer may be here but we continue to be as busy as ever at the BABC Northern California.
In June, we held our monthly Young Professionals Happy Hour at Café Americano. Our continued thanks go out to Hotel Vitale for hosting this increasingly popular event. The young professionals committee were delighted to welcome attendees industries including software engineering, banking, internet security and marketing. The Happy Hour takes place every second Tuesday of the month and affords our young professional community the opportunity to connect and network with their peers. Follow this

We were honored to join the British-Consulate General on Sunday 25th June to celebrate culture, diversity and equality in the United Kingdom at the San Francisco Pride parade. The BABC team and community marched down Market Street alongside a classic Rolls Royce to a welcoming crowd as part of the
Love is Great Britain
campaign.
On June 29th, the BABC office hosted "Tea with HSBC", a presentation aimed at helping residents of the Bay Area secure a mortgage. Attendees learned about the importance of credit ratings, the foreign loan guidelines for international borrowers and how to decide if owning a home is right for them. Thank you to the team at

for producing such a successful event.

The mission aims to build new opportunities for these established businesses and foster relationships, inspiring the next generation of female founders and promoting diversity in the work place. Our Female Founders and their businesses were competitively selected for their innovation, their business to date as well as their ability to scale. The success of the visit is a reflection of the hard work put in by our Department for International Trade team, the Mayor of London's International Business programme and the organisers behind Silicon Valley Comes to the UK.
While these women have the chance to gain invaluable insights from some very successful companies, I'd be remiss if we didn't acknowledge that Silicon Valley does have its problems. The recent headlines across a number of companies have certainly given us all pause to reflect on the how we treat and include women in the work place.
This isn't something that can be ignored. Gender equality is a priority for the whole of the British government and is central to FCO's human rights work worldwide. We have contributed to the substantial progress which has been made in securing greater participation of women - particularly in conflict-affected areas - and in tackling sexual violence in conflict. Nevertheless, womenremain underrepresented at most levels of government and in other formal decision making processes in very many parts of the world.
That's why we will continue to do what we can to support women in the tech sector, and promote the value of diversity in all its forms. Having had the pleasure to welcome and host this group of Female Founders, I can't wait to see what they do.

BABC Young Professionals June Happy Hour
On Tuesday we hosted our increasingly popular Young Professionals Happy Hour in Cafe Americano at Hotel Vitale. The Young Professionals Committee were delighted to welcome new and returning attendees to this networking event.

The weekend of the 7th-8th of June was dominated by glorious weather and equally fabulous outfits;of course Pride had taken over San Francisco and British were not left out!
Celebrations began on a Saturday in Civic Center Plaza in downtown San Francisco and the Parade, which takes place the Sunday morning of the event, kicked off from Beale Street along Market and finished in the heart of downtown San Francisco.

After a 2-year decline from 17 in 2014 to 9 in 2016, 100k+SF deals are back with 8 signed in the first half of 2017.
Larger tenants and larger deals continue to drive the Bay Area office market, with 8 transactions over 100,000 square feet in San Francisco already in 2017.
After a spike last year concerned observers, the amount of sublease space currently on the market has fallen sharply in the first ½ of 2017. Many growing companies have gravitated toward subleases due to their (sometimes) shorter term lengths, and some landlords have 'recaptured' sublease space in order to sign new direct deals at today's rents.
