There once was a seed that decided to grow
While others laughed and teased,
But that seed just wouldn't say "No",
In itself it truly believed.
Chorus:
It took one seed to make a difference.
It took one seed to grow up tall.
It took one seed to have the courage.
One seed that's all.
The seed took root and grew real tall
While others laughed and teased,
"You won't last long, you'll only fall."
Yet the seed became a tree.
Chorus:
It took one seed to make a difference.
It took one seed to grow up tall.
It took one seed to have the courage.
One seed that's all.
Now that tree is fully grown
Now it's making seeds
Strong enough - it won't be long
As they grow up into trees.
Chorus:
It took one seed to make a difference.
It took one seed to grow up tall.
It took one seed to have the courage.
One seed that's all.
Next time that you're seeking shade
You'll find it under a tree
Remember that seed and the risk it made
How it grew for you and me.
Chorus Twice:
It took one seed to make a difference
It took one seed to grow up tall
It took one seed to have the courage
One seed that's all.

A seed. Any type of seed. Within its outer shell lies its true potentiality. Sometimes we don't even know what type of seed it is. It is only after cultivating the soil, planting the seed, and giving it everything it needs (like sun, water, nutrients, and fresh air), that it can grow to its full potential. And so it is with human life. We are all born just like that seed. Within our outer skin lies our true potentiality - perfect, whole and complete. And it is through love, a sense of belonging, nourishing and whole foods, clean water, fresh air, exercise and an inner self-belief and trust that we may grow to our full potential.
Life is such a sacred gift. The great mythologist, writer and lecturer, Joseph Campbell, once said, "The privilege of a lifetime is being who you are."

It's all in a tiny little seed, how miraculous!!
Recently one of TDI's employees came in with a bag of organic cucumbers from her garden that she was kind enough to share with the office. She was so proud of herself because she was able to grow the cucumbers from the seeds. From a couple of tiny seeds cucumbers were produced. I held the cucumber and could feel that it was a live, living food. It is a beautifully simple thing, but I found it profound. She provided the proper environment, the proper water and exposed it to sunlight, etc. and the cucumber grew. The cucumber didn't think about whether or not it wanted to grow or whether or not it wanted to be a cucumber. It just did as God intended it to do. I
t is what it is without any apologies or judgement and with complete acceptance.
If a cucumber has this capability, then what is possible for human beings? What if all humans everywhere had their God given basic rights of life provided....
healthy, nutritious food, clean, pure water, sunlight and shelter. What would we be capable of, given this nourishing environment? Everything has been encoded in us just like in the cucumber seed; we have all the right stuff inside. How can we bring to fruition that which was planned for us
when we were created?
How is it that so many people not only don't reach their potential but in fact are struggling just to survive? So many people on the planet are starving, homeless, suffering from chronic, debilitating illnesses and addicted to food, alcohol and drugs, etc.
I personally do not think that this is what our lives were intended to be. I believe we all were meant to live joyful, prosperous, fulfilling lives.
What happened, where did we go wrong and the bigger question is what are we going to do about it? I guess, like always, it comes back to our own personal responsibility to not only take care of ourselves but to take care of each other and our beautiful Mother Earth. There are many grass roots movements that are gaining lots of momentum and affecting change. It starts with the seed of a thought that change is possible. The idea is nurtured and cultivated and shared with others. It begins to grow and blossom and expand and before you know its change takes place.
Our "spotlight" writer and August 23rd webinar speaker, Christina Veselak, is going to shed some light on how we can create and maintain vibrant health. The title of her webinar is:
"Feed Your Brain First: Using Amino Acid and Nutrient Therapy to Effectively Address Depression, Anxiety, Insomnia and Addiction without Medication." (See below to register)

TDI/Health through Awareness are proud to sponsor the following class facilitated by Elizabeth Kochanik:
"The Bars",
the core and foundation of
Access
Consciousness
What would you create if there was only choice?
What if a gentle touch could change everything?
There is a set of tools from Access Consciousness called The Bars.
This amazing set of tools and questions empowers people to
"know that they know."
Running The BARS is similar to defragging your computer, but instead of your computer you are deleting all the files that you have stored in your mind's database that keep you locked in limitation and looping back to the same thing over and over again without being able to free yourself fully.
The Bars are 32 points around your head that correlate to everyday topics, such as money, communication, healing, sex, aging and more. When we gently press on these points we "Run" the Bars. Running your Bars can open new possibilities that you never even knew existed before.
Click
here for "About Access"
Click
here for "About Bars"
Are you ready for a new possibility?
Learn how to run "The BARS" on
Saturday, October 21st from 9:30-5:00 at Virtua Hospital Voorhees 100 Bowman Drive,
Holman Conference Center
Room D Voorhees Township, NJ 08043
$300 First Class
$150 Repeat Class
(payment in the form of cash or check)
Please arrive by 9:15 to give you time to settle in.
There will be a morning and afternoon 15-minute break and an
hour break for lunch.
Bring healthy snacks and water.
You can bring your own lunch or go to the Promenade which is in driving distance and has a Panera Bread, Zoe's, B. Good and Chipotle there.
The Bars Class is a prerequisite for all of the other classes offered by Access Consciousness. When you are giving or receiving a Bars session you let go of fixed points of view that create limitation and keep you BOXED in from creating the life that you desire. Learning to run The Bars is simple. ANYONE, I repeat ANYONE, can learn to do it with ease. During this one-day class you will give two sessions and receive two sessions. When you are giving a Bars session, any points of view that you share in common with the person you are giving the session to will also be cleared for you. How could it get any better than that? You will be receiving four sessions in one day. Imagine how many fixed, limiting points of view you will let go of!
At the completion of the class you will be an
Access Consciousness Bars Practitioner and will have everything you need to offer Bars sessions professionally and personally to others.
The class will be
facilitated
by Elizabeth Kochanik

The Third Leg of the Stool
Nutritional Support for the Addicted Brain
By Christina Veselak, LMFT
The American Medical Association has long understood that addiction is a brain driven, bio-psycho-social illness. Traditional treatment programs, including Alcoholics Anonymous, have done a great job developing effective approaches to the psychological, social and spiritual aspects of addiction. However, for the most part, these programs do not teach their clients the skills necessary to address or manage the biochemical and brain imbalances that drive addiction. Thus relapse rates are chronically high, and even when people do manage to stay sober, they are often plagued by ongoing depression, anxiety, irritability and insomnia. This leads them to seek relief by going to psychiatrists whose toolboxes are generally limited to the use of psychotropic medications, thus rendering patients dependent upon them for lifetime prescriptions. Many addicts and alcoholics go into treatment to get off mood altering substances, only to leave treatment on more drugs than they entered with. Furthermore, many of these drugs are toxic, have serious side effects, or stop working effectively after a while. Just as importantly, these drugs do not address the root causes of brain imbalance.
Fortunately, 50 years of research supports an alternate approach to addressing the chemical imbalances underlying addictive behavior. By learning to feed their brains and bodies, the simple nutrients required for optimal and balanced functioning, many recovering people are empowered to create a stable and enduring recovery and a vibrant life. Imagine a three legged stool: if this stool has only one functioning leg, it will fall over immediately; if it has two legs, the person attempting to sit on it may stay upright for a short while, but only by staying focused on maintaining strict balance. Once distracted, they fall right over. However, bringing the third leg of the stool allows a person to easily find balance, and move on with life.
This "bio" approach is based on two premises: keeping blood sugar very stable through the day by never, ever missing a meal, avoiding simple sugars and starches and eating protein every 3-4 hours; and quickly replenishing the malnourished addicted brain with the nutrients necessary for its optimal functioning. These nutrients are ideally found in a well-rounded, whole food, "pro-recovery" diet. They include amino acids, vitamins, minerals and healthy fats. However, by the middle and late stages of addiction, most addicts and alcoholics are profoundly nutrient deprived and have developed serious digestive issues. Therefore, we have found that using supplements which contain these crucial nutrients often effectively jump starts the repair process and frequently leads to dramatic decrease of withdrawal symptoms and cravings, quickly improving mood and sleep. These supplements can be found at any local vitamin store and can be taken as needed without a prescription. Treatment programs which utilize this approach, and bring in the "third leg of the stool," have been shown to have a much lower relapse rate than programs which don't.
Finally, these treatment programs have identified underlying physiological disorders which many people self-medicate by using mood altering chemicals and behaviors. These disorders include hypo- or hyperthyroidism, adrenal dysfunction, food intolerances, and genetic polymorphisms such as issues with the MTHFR gene or Reward Deficiency Syndrome. These disorders can be easily identified and treated, again leading to a more serene recovery.
Books which teach this approach include
Seven Weeks to Sobriety, by Joan Mathews Larson, PhD;
End Your Addiction Now, by Charles Gant, MD; and
The Mood Cure by Julia Ross, MA. The non-profit educational organization, The Alliance for Addiction Solutions, is another good source of information.

Thermographic Diagnostic Imaging/Health through Awareness is proud to present
a free holistic health webinar on
Wednesday, August 23 from 7-8PM DST
presented by Christina Veselak, LMFT
Thermographic Diagnostic Imaging/Health through Awareness presents Christina Veselak, LMFT, L
icensed Marriage and Family Therapist, specializing in nutrition for emotional well-being and addiction recovery since 1985.
The title of her presentation is "
Feed Your Brain First: Using Amino Acid and Nutrient Therapy to Effectively Address Depression, Anxiety, Insomnia and Addiction without Medication."
Neurotransmitters are the chemicals in our brains that mediate our moods and behaviors. When they are in balance, so are we. When they are depleted or out of balance, we will suffer from depression, anxiety, fatigue, insomnia, etc. As a way of self-medicating, one may turn to mood altering substances to cope. This further depletes these crucial resources. In this presentation you will be introduced to nutrients such as amino acids that allow our brains to create and rebuild neurotransmitters. Amino acids such as Tyrosine, GABA, 5HTP and others are easily available from your local vitamin store and help to improve mood and well-being within 20 minutes! They also may decrease withdrawal symptoms and cravings for addictive substances. You will also learn about the crucial vitamins, minerals and essential fatty acids such as fish oil which help with effectiveness of the amino acids.
Christina Veselak, LMFT,
trained as a nutritionist in 1993 and specializes in nutrition for emotional well-being and addiction recovery. She has a private practice as a psychotherapist and mental health nutritionist through her clinic, Garden Gate Counseling and Consulting in Denver, Colorado. She is program director of St. Ephraim Center, a nutritionally informed addiction and mental health counseling program in the Eastern Orthodox Church and is a founding member and former Executive Director of The Alliance for Addiction Solutions. As the principal trainer for The Alliance, she speaks and teaches nationally on nutritional approaches to mental health and addiction treatment. She also runs and teaches two online certification programs in Biochemical and Nutritional Approaches to Mental Health and Addiction Recovery through her company, The Academy for Addiction and Mental Health Nutrition. In addition, she consults with treatment programs helping them integrate crucial nutritional elements into their programming.

Walking 4 a CURE One Step at a Time
CRPS/RSD
5k Walk/Run
Philip Getson, DO is again hosting this year's walk. He has been practicing in New Jersey for the past 41 years. As a family practitioner, he became interested in CRPS in the 1980's and has gone on to successfully diagnose and treat over a thousand individuals suffering with CRPS/RSD.
Reflex Sympathetic Dystrophy or, as it is now known, Complex Regional Pain Syndrome is an insidious disease of unknown etiology. Primarily it is a neurological disorder and as such affects not only the nervous system as we know it but also internal organs and the musculoskeletal system and its ramifications are far reaching.
The primary hallmark of this disorder is pain and in instances where this follows a traumatic event, the pain is out of proportion to said event. There are many other symptoms such as but not limited to swelling, color change, temperature change, hair growth and nail growth changes, and motor movement dysfunction. The pain more often than not is described as burning but frequently can be described as deep bone pain
, sharp pain, dull pain, and many other adjectives have been used to describe this primary symptom.
