Outreach programs, the return of Chris Kelts as Music Director, auditions, and 59th season program planning - we stay busy during the off season!

KCCO News and Updates
It may be the "off season," but that doesn't mean KCCO is taking a break. Our outreach coordinators have been out sharing their love of music with the community, our returning Music Director has been developing the coming season's program, and the board is excited to be planning our first performance at Helzberg Hall at the Kauffmann Center for the Performing Arts!

Concerts

Planning for our 59th season is well underway, and our concert dates have been set! This season will include seven performances as well as popular programs like our Fourth Annual Instrument Petting Zoo and Young Artist Concerto competition. This year's concerto competition winner will have the opportunity to play at a world-class venue - Helzberg Hall at the Kauffmann Center for Performaing Arts!

Chris Kelts
Musician Spotlight

KCCO recently welcomed the return of Dr. Chris Kelts as Music Director. In addition to leading the KC Civic Orchestra, Chris is also Director of Orchestral Studies and Assistant Professor of Music, Missouri State University. He is also the Music Director and co-founder of the Kinnor Philharmonic Orchestra.

Outreach Activities

It's the off-season for concerts, but KCCO's Don Goldenbaum and Jennifer Mitchell have been keeping plenty busy with outreach programs. They have performed for and interacted with students at several schools, as well as with seniors in assisted living facilities.

Auditions

KCCO is seeking additional musicians to join the orchestra for our upcoming season. Visit our Auditions page to see which positions are available and view the audition requirements. Auditions take place on August 25th, but you must reserve your space by August 11th. Please contact Christopher Kelts with questions or for more information.

Silent Auction Donations

We are already working toward our biggest fundraiser of the year, our December silent auction!  From now through November 1st we will be collecting gift certificates, quality handmade gifts, large stand-alone decorative pieces, wine, and other small basket-filling items.  Examples of basket themes include baby/children's items, food, sports, dinner-in-a-basket, game night, gardening, golf, housewarming, and Kansas City pride. If you have an item you'd like to donate, or if you have any questions, please contact Beth Cicha via email  or by calling 913-649-4361.

Get Involved

KCCO is able to offer free concerts and outreach activities thanks to generous support from our members and supporters. The more volunteers we have, the more we can do! Whether you're a music-lover who wants to give back, or a student or professional looking for community service opportunities to add experience to your resume, there are a number of ways you can contribute.

Friends of Civic
Joining Friends of Civic is a great way to get involved with KCCO. Friends of Civic members are a fun group that helps support activities like the annual fundraising silent auction, instrument petting zoo, and greeting concert attendees. As a Friends member you'll be a key part of the KC area's cultural scene, you'll be giving back to our audience members, and you'll have the deep appreciation of our orchestra and board members. Mingle with current Friends of Civic members, learn more about the group, and enjoy a pizza feast on August 29th at Atonement Lutheran Church.

If you would like to get more involved with KCCO, or just want to learn more about the opportunities available, get in touch!

The KCCO quarterly newsletter gives our subscribers a broader overview of our concert seasons, introduces you to members of the orchestra, and shares information about additional KCCO activities.  We hope you enjoy it, but i f you would prefer not to receive the newsletter,  please send us a note .
