CHILDREN'S MINISTRY



This Week in Sunday School  We will look at The Good Samaritan and talk about who our neighbors are and how we can help them.  We will get to know each other through games, crafts and something yummy to eat.  Join us for fun!
 
Join us downstairs for Sunday School and spend time with our amazing kids!  We are changing our program to make it easier for volunteers.  Come down and see the new set up and then sign up to help!! These also give you a chance to welcome new families to our church!  You can also help teach our children as a Teacher or Shepherd.

Sprouts Parents
Parents of Preschool and PreK Kids!   The Amazing Miss Tanya is taking a break from teaching our Sprouts class this summer, so we will need parents to help out! We have some great games, activities and lessons planned. The kids are great to work with! Take a look at your schedule and see where you can volunteer. Check out the Spring Sign Up.

YOUTH MINISTRY

Join us Sunday morning at 10 for worship.
Youth Group is Sunday from 6-8.  Watch your texts for details!  We will be at the McIllece's house.

Middle School Mystery Night is Friday, August 4th.  
 

 

We have two more events before we we say goodbye to our summer program.     

 

  • August 13 we have our annual Fancy Dinners.  This is when we dress up for a fancy night out.  Yes, dust off your dresses and ties and come looking sharp!  Bring $10 and your best manners for a CUC night on the town.
  • August 15 we have tickets to see the Rockies play the Atlanta Braves!  Go Rockies! Seats are limited so sign up fast!  [email protected]

 

We will take a few weeks to plan for our next year's program.  We will meet again September 10.  See you there!

Adult Sunday School  
Adult Ed is not meeting for the summer.  Join us in September for all new programs of learning!

CUC MUSIC

Bells & Choir Rehearsals  Bells will begin rehearsals on August.23 at 6:15 p.m. and 7:30 p.m., respectively.

The Band rehearses Wednesday evenings in the sanctuary.  Contact Music Director Mitch Samu ( [email protected]), if you are interested in joining the group.
 
GROUPS AND ANNOUNCEMENTS



School Supplies   The Mission Committee would like to thank every person in the congregation that participated in any way in the School Supply Drive.  We collected about 10 grocery carts of school supplies for the children that IFCS serves in our area.  We filled the list!  Special thanks from the whole staff of IFCS to all of you; from individuals buying the supplies, to sorting and delivering them - everyone played an important part!
 

Homecoming    We are planning to do a big homecoming on Sunday, September 10th, with a "Luau" theme.   Tom Rehling is cooking a whole pig!  Pastor Steve kicks off the fall with an inspiring vision of the next year here at CUC and we have all kinds of activities for the kids and grandkids.  Join us for lunch after the 10:00 a.m. service. 
 
CUC Book Club  The book Club will meet Thursday, August 17th at 1:00 p.m. in the Parlor.  We will be discussing The Woodcutter, by Reginald Hill.  Everyone is welcome.  

Western Welcome Weekend CUC will have a booth on Saturday, August 19th.  We need volunteers to help welcome people who stop by.  If you would like to volunteer, please contact Pastor Justin

Who's Coming to Dinner?  Guess Who's Coming to Dinner? for Aug. 26 has been postponed.  Due to unforeseen circumstances of the committee, the dinner has been postponed until later in the fall.
 
New Member Class   If you're interested in joining Columbine United Church, or if you would just like to learn about the church, sign up for the new member class on Sunday, September 24th at 11:30 p.m.  Lunch and childcare will be provided. Handicapped Parking Spaces Please be considerate of those in need and only park in the spaces designated as "Handicapped" if you have a permit or car tag prominently displayed.

Prayer Shawl. The Prayer Shawl Ministry meets the first Tuesday of each month in the Parlor. If you like to knit, or if you would like to learn to knit, please feel free to join them at 7:00 p.m. This ministry has been providing comfort to those in need for many years.

Notary Public. Josie Hamlen, one of our office staff, is a Notary Public. If you need this service, call the church office.

JOYS:

Carla Keesecker's treatment (the second half of her first infusion) went much better.  She wants to thank everyone for their prayers and cards.  Her next infusion is January 31, 2018.

Nancy Bierman's hip surgery went well and she wants to thank everyone for the well wishes.

Bill & Barb McElroy are so grateful for the cards and prayers received after their son, Michael's, death.  The support makes a difficult time more bearable.  Thank you.


CONCERNS:

Prayers for the entire family of Tom & Marni Wetzel in the sudden loss of their grandchild, Teddy. 
Please pray for Becca Kring who sings with the band.  She had her tonsils and adenoids removed, along with surgery on her sinuses.  

Please pray for Cherie LaBelle, a friend and co-worker of Kathy Ireland.  She is battling Plasma Cell Leukemia and is about to have a transplant as the next treatment.  

Please pray for Steve & Marlene Weiss, good friends of the Dunleavy's.  Steve was recently diagnosed with prostate cancer, and Marlene with ovarian cancer.

Please pray for Judi Buehrer upon the death of her husband, Wayne, and her upcoming cancer treatments.  Wayne's funeral is scheduled for Sunday, August 13th at 1:00 p.m.  If you'd like to take a meal, please go to http://www.takethemameal.com/meals.php?t=LMFD5930 .

Please pray for Jack Gibson who is suffering from congestive heart failure while on vacation in Connecticut.  

Although the immediate crisis may be over, we ask that you keep the following people in your prayers:  Bev Knotwell, Carla Keesecker, Melody Maxwell, Judith Wright, Roger Ponds, Katie Gaertner, Dan Simmons, Bob and Lisa Call, Nina and Garrett Ray, Tom Moore, Ruth and Don Teason, and Jeff and Linda Veres.

There are other unnamed members and friends of CUC who have requested prayers as they deal with unemployment, financial challenges, significant concerns, addiction and anger management. 

Please pray for our brothers and sisters in the military and those who serve our country around the world.
