Representative Joe Kennedy was the featured guest at a June 22 Capital Conversations breakfast, hosted by Nelson Mullins at their Washington, DC, office.  The Congressman discussed his concerns about efforts to repeal the ACA, among other topics.  He is pictured here (right) with Michael Queenan of American Tower Corporation. 
NEC Presents Financial Services Report in New Hampshire
Gov. Chris Sununu Keynotes Event Co-Hosted by New Hampshire Bankers Association
Christiana Thornton of NH Bankers Association, Gov. Chris Sununu, and Ed Kenealy of LIberty Mutual.
On June 29, 2017, The New England Council partnered with the New Hampshire Bankers Association--a Council member--to host a presentation of the Council's report, The New England Financial Services Industry: Around the Corner and Around the World, which was released earlier this year.  Governor Chris Sununu gave keynote remarks, followed by a presentation on the report's key findings by PwC, who assisted the Council in preparing the report.  The event also featured a panel discussion with the following panelists:
  • Thomas F. Fahey, Vice President, Government Relations, New Hampshire Bankers Association - Moderator 
  • Joe Murray, Vice President of Public Affairs, Fidelity Investments
  • Ed Kenealy, Senior Vice President & Chief Public Affairs Officer, Liberty Mutual Insurance

NEC Staff Annoucement
Council Welcomes Sean Malone as New Director of Federal Affairs
The New England Council is pleased to announce the appointment of Sean Malone as our new Director of Federal Affairs. Sean joined the Council on June 26, 2017.  In his new role, Sean will work primarily with the Council's Energy & Environment and Healthcare Committees on advocacy initiatives, events, and other projects. Sean joins the Council from the Office of U.S. Representative Joseph Kennedy III, where he has worked for the past 4 ½ years, most recently serving as the Congressman's Economic Development Liaison in the district office. Earlier in his career, Sean served on the staffs of U.S. Senator Ted Kennedy and U.S. Senator Paul Kirk. He is a Connecticut native and a graduate of Northeastern University. Sean will be based in the Council's Boston office but will also visit the Washington, DC, office on a regular basis. DC Dialogue on NECN

The most recent episode of DC Dialogue aired on NECN on Sunday, June 18, 2017. In the first segment, Jim Brett and Eileen Curran were joined by Dr. David Torchiana, President and CEO of Partners HealthCare, for a wide ranging discussion of some of the most pressing healthcare issues, including efforts to repeal the Affordable Care Act, the opioid addiction crisis, and proposed cuts to federal research funding.  Later in the show, we were joined by Republican strategist Pat Griffin--Founding Partner and CEO of Merrimack Potomac + Charles and a member of the NEC Board of Directors--for a discussion of some of the latest developments in the Trump Administration.   DC Dialogue will be back with new episodes in September! 
  
Jim Brett Honored for Disabilities Advocacy

Brett Receives Award from National Advocacy Group
New England Council President and CEO Jim Brett was recently honored by the American Academy of Developmental Medicine and Dentistry with the organization's 2017 Katie Beckett Award.  Jim was presented with the award at the Academy's Annual Conference in Houston, Texas.  The Katie Beckett Award is presented annual to the person who best personifies the spirit and passion of the Beckett family.  Jim is pictured here at the conference with Mary Davis, CEO of the Special Olympics, and Dr. Steve Pearlman of Swampscott, MA.
