THANK YOU TO 2016-2017 CCC VOLUNTEER KIMBERLY CHOI

EFC staff extend our thanks to Kimberly Choi, our Chesapeake Conservation Corps
2016-2017 volunteer. Kim was involved in many aspects of the SM program as well as other projects during her time at EFC. From editing the monthly newsletters, to reviewing the SM Action Menu, to creating pet waste management outreach materials and assisting with outreach events, Kim helped keep the Sustainable Maryland program operating at a high level this past year.

Kim's capstone project focused on surveying and interviewing elected officials, municipal staff and Green Team members in Sustainable Maryland registered and certified communities about their experiences with, and attitudes about, the SM program and sustainability activities generally. We expect to utilize this information to fine tune the program and deepen our work with towns and cities across the state. We'll be sharing Kim's work in future newsletters.

Thanks Kim!

VISUALIZE 2045 SURVEY: TRANSPORTATION IN THE NATIONAL CAPITAL REGION

Take the Visualize 2045 Survey

Visualize 2045 is a new kind of long-range transportation plan for the National Capital Region, led by the Metropolitan Washington Council of Governments. It will show the projects and improvements the region's transportation agencies are planning through 2045-both what they can afford now and what they would build if they had more funding. The plan will focus on regionally significant road and transit projects, but will also highlight bicycle and pedestrian projects and key land-use issues facing the region. The plan will take a multimodal approach, relying not on any one travel mode to accommodate future population growth and address the region's diverse transportation challenges.

The survey  is open until August 21.

QUOTE

"The will to survive is itself a renewable resource. With Mother Nature playing an increasingly prominent role in the discussions about the climate, more and more people are realizing if the president won't lead, the American people must."

-- Al Gore, former US Vice President, in the new film An Inconvenient Sequel: Truth to Power

Sustainable Maryland is an initiative of the Environmental Finance Center at the University of Maryland. It is a free and voluntary program designed to help Maryland communities choose a direction for their sustainability efforts, improve access to resources needed to implement action, and recognize their accomplishments. Our sponsors include the Town Creek Foundation, US Environmental Protection Agency, and the Maryland Municipal League. For more information about how your municipality can register in the Sustainable Maryland program, plus customized Green Team training and access to student resources that are available to provide consultancy services for municipal planning, please contact 301-405-7956 or mikeh75@umd.edu
