As we get ready to celebrate Independence Day, we think of summer weather, family and friends, barbeques, and fireworks. It is a day to celebrate the birth of our country. This is a fun and festive holiday which most people look forward to and enjoy.
When thinking on our country's independence it comes to mind that it took blood and sacrifice to attain our independence. It was surly a difficult time for many people during the American Revolution. We think of the men that fought for our independence and their families that supported them. We call them patriots.
A patriot is described as a person who loves, supports, and defends his or her country with devotion. That definition also describes us. Each of us put on a uniform and served our country with devotion. We, as sailors on the U.S.S. Wainwright, answered the call of our country. We met our ship's commitments and were ready to go when called upon. We missed holidays and our families in defense of our country's objectives. We are modern day patriots.
This holiday is a celebration of you and I and what we did as part of the greatest Navy in the world. Your U.S.S. Wainwright Veteran's Association Executive Board of Directors salute you this Independence Day along with all the other patriots that served our great country.
God Bless you and Have a Happy Independence Day!
