Commercial & Industrial Interlocking Flooring
MRI room at Brigham & Women’s Hospital goes FreeStyle with installation of BioLock tiles
An MRI center at Brigham & Women’s Hospital at 75 Francis Street in Boston recently received FreeStyle Biolock tiles. The project was initiated and installed by Integrated Interiors, an installer of the Haworth Tecrete access flooring systems.

An MRI room requires a special kind of tile for any number of reasons. For this particular job, the room utilized Hayworth’s access flooring system and therefore required a finished surface that could be removed to gain access to the subfloor panels. It also required embedding Gauss Lines on the floor to signify the magnetic field inside the room.

In addition to the specific needs of this particular MRI center, FreeStyle Biolock offers comfort to staff who have to stand on the tiles all day.

BioLock employs a patented glueless “zipper” interlocking system that enables the flooring to be installed over existing flooring with minimal subfloor preparation. There’s no need for messy, toxic adhesive and down-time is significantly reduced—often times without need to close off an area.

In addition to the ergonomic and installation benefits, BioLock utilizes a water-proof seam sealer that makes tiles liquid-tight but still removable and replaceable. This modular benefit prevents liquids from penetrating the seams and getting below the floor, contributing to the prevention of the growth of infectious organisms—an extremely important factor for healthcare facilities. With its urethane, no-wax finish, the commercial grade BioLock is extremely easy to maintain.

Made with 70 percent recycled materials and 100 percent recyclable, BioLock meets CA 1350 Indoor Air Quality and is MAS Certified Green.

BioLock has one additionally important benefit, sound reduction. That might not make a huge difference in an MRI room, but it’s an important element to a medical practice, healthcare facility or lab.

FreeStyle BioLock is available in six stock colors and 30 special order colors.
