BROOK-LEA HOSTING THIRD ANNUAL
SYMETRA TOUR DANIELLE DOWNEY
CREDIT UNION CLASSIC THIS WEEK!
TICKETS AVAILABLE ONLINE, at LOCAL CREDIT UNIONS
...AND AT ALL AREA WEGMANS!
Named in memory of the late Danielle Downey - an LPGA Tour golfer from Spencerport who devoted her life to promoting women's golf and supporting young women in golf - the 2017 Danielle Downey Credit Union Classic will be hosted by Brook-Lea Country Club this week, July 20-23.
The LPGA's Symetra Tour makes its annual stop in Rochester this week, hosted by Brook-Lea
Country Club from July 17-23, for the
2017 Danielle Downey Credit Union Classic.
Featuring up and coming future LPGA stars, the Symetra Tour's motto is "
The Road to the LPGA," and each year sends 10 of its players to the LPGA based upon their performance in Symetra Tour events!
Annie Park - the first Downey Classic champion crowned in 2015 - not only won her first event here as a professional, she also later graduated to the LPGA Tour!
All this week, professional ladies golfers will play for a good cause, as they compete to earn their share of $150,000 in prize money as
the Danielle Downey Credit Union Classic returns for a third year. Adding to the local interest in this year's tournament, Brook-Lea's own Jenna Hoecker - a two-time RDGA Women's Championship winner - has been given an exemption into the starting field.
In addition to honoring his friend
Danielle Downey - who was killed at age 34 in an auto accident in early 2014 - the goal of tournament chairman
Mike Vadala in bringing the Symetra Tour here to Rochester was born in the aftermath of the departure of the long-running LPGA Tour event at Locust Hill Country Club. Seeing a void on the local golf scene - and sensing fans' desire to attend an annual pro tour event - Vadala first brought the Tour to Brook-Lea in 2015.
Tickets for this event are as low as $20 and can be purchased in advance on the Downey Classic website, at local participating credit unions and at all area Wegmans Food Stores.
